3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Martinus (663) - Nijmegen, NETHERLANDS - APR 18, 2011
Dark brown, nut brown colour. Fine light brown head.
Sweet fruity aroma, apple/pear, orange peal, thyme. Apple syrup (appelstroop) notes. Yeast and malt tones.
Taste is sweet, but in some way fresh from the herbs. Orange, thyme, other herbs. Green pepper. Alcohol not so pronounced as expected for 10%ABV. Sweet sticky apple and quite some malts. Finish sweet and creamy, but not lasting very long. I’m actually quite curious how this beer will age, could be really interesting.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 FatPhil (5965) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - APR 3, 2011
750ml bottle (Drink Shop, Tallinn)
6 Gentle aroma, slight roast maltiness, a touch of apple.
4 Rich reddy brown, fizzy head settles to a ring and small patch in the middle, supported by a nucleation site in the stem.
6 Sweet apply almonds in the retronasals, some cherry too. Dry and papery marzipan/almond taste in the mouth. Quite a waft of alcohol too.
3 Crisp palate, lively carbonation. Finish a little fruity, but more herby and bitingly bitter. Tingle lasts quite a long time, but the long finish is like dry old stale hops.
12 Doesn’t cover the alcohol as well as many, but that’s because it’s not so laced with sugars as others.
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 dnstone (1458) - Mons, BELGIUM - MAR 24, 2011
Sweet lightly roasty and fruity aroma. A rich brown color with excellent light-tan color head that thick and sits up causing a nice lacing. Moderately sweet and roasted flavor with light spiced notes and hints of walnut. Really a great winter beer.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 AshtonMcCobb (778) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - MAR 20, 2011
75cl bottle. Dark brown appearance with a nice creamy head. Aooles and pears on the nose. The taste is very elegant for a 10% beer, there are more notes of apples and pears, perhaps ginger cake. A very smooth palate, possibly a little lighter in body than expected but very creamy and a delicate creamy finish.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Elwood (1834) - Between a rock and a hard place, Virginia, USA - MAR 16, 2011
Serving: 750 ml. bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours a hazy, reddish brown with a decent sized, light tan head. The nose is spiced and Belgian with nice yeast notes, some dark fruit, port, and candy sugar. The flavor leans towards the sweet side for the style, but that combined with the spices add for a festive touch. The dried fruit is definitely there along with the Belgian yeast. Perhaps a little plum as well. Medium bodied with medium to high carbonation leading to a medium, sweet finish. Tasty holiday fare! Dangerously drinkable at 10%.
