Great Christmas beer, not too heavy on the spice or sweetness, but full of alcohol. perfect fireside sipping.

0,33L bottle. Pours dark ruby with beige head. The head stays for some time. Aroma is malt, dark fruits, caramel. Flavor is sweet, malt, caramel, burnt sugar, some fruits. Finish is dry bitter with some burnt sugar in the background. Alcohol is noticeable. Overall: nice brew, but I think ageing would help it a lot (I couldn’t find BB, but it feels very fresh).

Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 18E). Bottle 33 cl - batch L40804. AROMA: complex aroma with a sweet malty background and notes of dried figs, pinneaple and citric flavours. hops not present. APPERANCE: deep amber color with ruby highlights and a bit hazy. tanned head with good retention. low lacing. TASTE: sweet malty background with some thyme, caramel and orangish notes. medium bitterness with a semi-sweet finish. PALATE: medium body with medium carbonation. smooth alcohol warmth. OVERALL: a nice belgian strong ale with some twists.

330ml bottle, poured into La Chouffe tulip. A: Very dark ruby, on the way to being opaque, small head morphed into a layer of film which didn’t want to go anywhere. S: Yeasty cranberry, was typical of the La Chouffe beers I’ve sampled and enjoyed. T: Lots of cranberry upfront, some molasses. Finished with some real musty yeastyness. M: Very smooth and light bodied for the high alcohol content. O: I can’t believe it had 10% abv, didn’t stray from the La Chouffe prototype, a winner, thumbs up from me.

Bottled, 330 ml. Hazy reddish dark brown/mahogany one with a fizzy beige head on its top, which diminishes with time completely. Nose of molasses, spices, dried fruits... Fizzy, crisp brew containing aromas of molasses, dried fruits, raised pie and medicine underpainted by alcohol, mouthfeel is slick. Long, warming and dry finish with citrusses, spices and earthy hops. N’ice.

When it?s cold, there?s almost no aroma at all. Once it warms up a bit, there is a light Belgian aroma along with some nice toasted malt and wood. Not much to look at, a medium muddy brown with a small light tan head. Very spicy taste probably from the roasted malt and the high ABV. Nice brown ale taste with some dark caramel and light molasses sweetness and some dark fruit , figs and fruit cake dried fruit . Some vanilla and a bit of butter scotch on the sides. The dry spiciness balances out the sweetness nicely. This gets better as it warms and should definitely not be drunk cold.

Sehr spritzig, fruchtig, malzig. Umami, leicht speckig. Recht süss-bitter. Besser als ds Chimay bleue.

Bottle 33cl. Ruby red brown with a big off white head that fades quickly. Aroma is not very explicit, but I think I can recognize some fruits. But somehow it has something chemical too. The taste is strange. A bitterness welcomes you, but then a strong sweetness kicks in. The thyme taste is apparent in the aftertaste. Peculiar, not my favorite.
