75cl bottle. Pours a lovely copper with a tan head which disappears fairly quickly. Rather light, slightly smoky nose which gives little indication of the strong flavours of toffee, cherry, raisins and a hint of woodiness. The abv is not overly noticeable. Similar to some of the good christmas ales while being a little bit more complex. I can imagine this beer would only improve with age. Overall a pretty good beer.

Bottle of the Limited Edition 2008 offering, at BCTC. Pours a hazy brown with a thin beige to tan head. Candy, plum, and prunes on the nose. More plum and dark fruit in the body. A little sweet for me, but still fairly solid.

Poured ruby with a thick tan head. Taste was fruity with lots of spice. It was good, but not really my style. Bottle was 2007 vintage, aged roughly a year.

UPDATED: JUL 24, 2009 Bottle (750ml) Aged roughly 9 months piror to tasting. Poured hazy dark copper with a small, fizzy, light brown head which was mostly diminishing. A rich aroma with sticky toffee malts, muscatels, burnt brown sugar, currents, caramelized dates, cola, cinnamon and hints of dust. Flavor was smooth with a very mild bitterness, toffee malts, rich fruitcake notes, stewed apricots, nutmeg, cinnamon and a warming woody finish. Noticeable alcohol content. Medium bodied with medium carbonation, a slightly thick texture and a good length finish. A little to much on the sweet side for my liking.

ohoh... gonna be a tad tipsy in an hour...
Poured out a nice deep reddish brown brew with a decent foam up but excellent retention and lacing leaves plenty of the light brown crown behind. Lots & lots & lots of chunks! Comes out quickly with a medium strength complex spice and yeast, dark malts, dark berries, weak raisin, orangeish. Great flavours here: more of the same compared to the nose with clove and soft pepper coming out more, oak?, fig, lots of thick rich malts, weak alcohol. This turned out to be one beer that I would prefer to not let warm excessively as it started to fall apart. Smooth on the mouth, finishes sweet and invites you back for another sip. Highly drinkable. My cellar should find a home for a couple of these.

750 ml. Amber-brown hazy body with a large, frothy tan head. The aroma is sweet with notes of caramel, toffee, brown sugar and cookie. Also notes of clove, raisin, dark fruits. Hint of dust, cobwebs. The flavor is moderately to heavily sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes moderately sweet and moderately bitter. Medium to full body with a velvety texture and lively carbonation. Delicious beer, sweet, spicy, complex and interesting.

750 ml bottle from thecheeseman. shared with the KW crew. pours deep burgundy with an average off white head. aromas of dark fruit and some spicing. very welcoming nicely integrated nose. very nice flavours, complex dark belgian malt body, yeast, spicing. a treat. thx for the bottle dan!
