N’Ice CHOUFFE is a strong, brown beer that will warm you in the depths of winter. Spicy (thyme and curaçao) and tinged with hops, this is a very balanced beer. N’Ice CHOUFFE is an unfiltered beer which is refermented in the bottle and in barrels.

Donkerbruin bier met licht beige schuimkraag. Geur: donker fruit, peperkoek, kruiden, anijs. Smaak: zoetig, donker gedroogd fruit, karamel. Afdronk: zoetig, warm alcoholisch. De eerste brouwsels hadden precies meer karakter!

AROMA Fresh herbs, bread, orange rind, soap, pepper, clove, caramel, little medicinal APPEARANCE Brownish with a slightly amber shade, pretty translucent, not so dense, beige mousse, good amount of lacing TASTE Raisins, caramel, bread, orange rind, fresh herbs, little coffee on the backend, mildly medicinal bitterness on the finish PALATE No big density here, not so heavy, not too sticky, rather fluid, typically heavier Belgian carbonation OVERALL This beer hits the bullseye for me. I’m a rather rational person. This is a rational beer. A love story is beginning. It’s all about rational dosing of aromas and flavours. I very much enjoy the balance of the various aforementioned aromas. I appreciate the light coffee finish in a Belgian brew, which is not so frequent, IMO. Chouffe personality (yeast) thrives in the aroma and taste but still lets this one express its own beautiful aromas and flavours. Yet this scores additional points on the dosing. I’m liking this effort. PAIRINGS Panforte Gorgonzola Nicely spiced steak, would try to season it with something containing a good shot of thyme, rosemary or sage

Donkerrood bier met witte schuimkraag die snel wegebt. Aroma van speculaas, peperkoek, kruidnagel, beetje anijs. Redelijk kruidige smaak, beetje moutig. Warme afdronk. Lekker winterbier.

330 ml single bottle from John’s Grocery. Amber reddish and clear appearance with plenty of sediment and a nice head. The nose is spicy, malty, yeasty, fruity and a touch hoppy. Similar flavor, with a medium to full body. An OK sipper overall.

Murky, dark brown pour with a short-lasting tan head. Smells of dried fruit, spices and caramel. The taste is sweet and rich with notes of dark and dried fruit and sugar. It feels like it could benefit from a fuller body.

Bottle 0.75L. Dark brown body with ruby nuances; large, frothy, tan head, mostly lasting with nice lacing. Moderate malty (caramel, roasted) aroma with notes of nuts, hazelnuts and spices. Moderate-to-heavy sweet, moderate bitter and light acidic flavour; dry finish. Medium body with watery-to-oily texture; average carbonation; light astrincency as well as light alcoholic warming in the finish.

33 cl bottle received as a Christmas gift from my in-laws. The pour is hazed brown slight copper ruby with a smallish light tan head. Nice lace on the glass. The aroma is nutmeg, general potpourri Christmas spice and clove yeast. The taste is big on the spice, bit of oxidized malt and bright alcohol. The palate is medium bodied, soft slick carbonation and a boozy alcohol dry spiced finish.

330ml Bottle from Good Spirits Co, Glasgow (£4.60):
Another great Chouffe beer & an excellent Xmas one with plenty complex flavours, a warming, boozy palate & a nice kick at the end. Not quite as pronounced on the nose as I’d been expecting but the taste more than made up for this with great ric h malts, sweetness & dark fruits.
