Tulip glass pour at a new Mpls spot called Mason’s. Really impressive head on a dark brown ale. Flavor is super smooth with maybe a little undercurrent of spice. Mouthfeel is something to behold...full coating for sure. I want a little more from the beer in general but still better than most domestic craft offerings. Rare to see this one in Mpls and hope to see it more often.

Donker bruin bier. De geuren/neus in dit bier is heerlijk. De smaak is minder vol dan verwacht maar nog steeds goed. De afdronk is fijn. Waarschijnlijk krijg je een fantastisch bier als je het geduld hebt om deze een tijdje te laten liggen!

First beer of 2013 P: Dark mahogany tinted brown ale with a generous crown of creamy khaki head that swarms the top and sides with silkiness. S: Sweet candy malt, raisins, allspice, nutmeg, agave syrup, thyme and curaçao. Yeast is earthy and dry with sweet pecan roll aroma. Alcohol is well hidden but spicy. T/M: The curaçao peel hits the palette strong and follows through with thyme, cardamom, vanilla bean, oak, raisins. Spices are pronounced but more of cooking herbs than peppery spice. Creamy finishing silky body that bids farewell with bitter apple peels and subtle white pepper. Mellow presence of cherry booze once warm. O: A fantastic choice for the first beer to start off a new year. Great flavors and well balanced. The thyme and curaçao are an interesting addition that create a smooth mellow drinking ale. Easy drinking and delicious. Highly recommend. Cheers!

Pours a rich dark brown with a creamy off white head. Aroma is sweet with booze and a hint if sherry. Medium body, mild carbonation. Slightly sticky but not too bad. Booze is there but it's in no way harsh, there's leaves, wood, candy and sweet melon. Good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2009 vintage tap @ mikkeller&friends. Nutty and rounded with a hint of orange peel, slighly spicy and overall one of the best belgian xmas ales.

Bomber shared with bmillsy. Smells like Christmas! nutmeg, coriander, cherry, toffee, thyme, citrus peel. Lacing was big and bubbley. Appears to be chunky which accounts for the Belgian funk I get afterwards. Chewy. Great seasonal beer.

UPDATED: JAN 26, 2014 Bottle brought by Beastmaster. Pours a deep dark red that looks beautiful in the light with a large fluffy off white head. However, there are giant chunks of yeast in this one and boy is it ugly. Aroma of sweet dark fruits: plums, cherries, spicy funky yeast. Flavor is rather syrupy sweet with big dark cherries and plums, some brief spice, and lots of candy sugar. Medium heavy mouthfeel with low carbonation. Meh, this wasn’t all that great.

75cl shared in a Delirium Noel glass. Pours a hazy dark brown colour with a slightly off-white head. Some nice flavours in there but the herbal notes aren’t to my taste. Not as warming as I would have liked and no Christmassy spices. No subsequent d’Achouffe beers seem to be able to live with the delicious La Chouffe.
