2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Fles gedeeld met lachneger. Robijnrood bruinachtig bier zonder kraag. Zoetige geur. Smaak is wat trekkend, hoog in de alcohol en dat proef je. Typisch Belgisch bier waar suikers voor de alcohol zorgen.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 8/24/2012. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy deep ruby red color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big raisin, plum, cherry, fig, apple, orange peel, caramel, toast, dark candi sugar, clove, molasses, brown bread, herbal, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast ester and dark/bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big raisin, plum, cherry, fig, apple, orange peel, caramel, toast, dark candi sugar, molasses, brown bread, clove, herbal, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of raisin, plum, cherry, fig, apple, orange peel, caramel, toast, dark candi sugar, clove, molasses, brown bread, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity and big robustness of dark/bready malt and fruity/spicy yeast ester flavors; with a great malt/yeast flavor balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a moderately slick, smooth, and lightly syrupy mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Belgian strong dark ale. All around great balance, robustness, and complexity of dark/bready malt and fruity/spicy yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
In bottle, brought back from a supermarket in Belgium. A little disappointing - have had this on draught several times and it’s been richer and more warming, but this bottle tasted a little thin and uninspiring. Wouldn’t prevent me ordering it again on draught though but I may leave the bottles alone.

Mooi bier, beter dan de gowone chouffe. Kleur is donker bruin. Smaak blijft redelijk lang hangen. Smaak heel licht zoet, chokolade met klein beetje fruit.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a dark reddish brown. Smells of dark fruit, malts, and some spices. Strong taste of sweet dark fruits, spices, and malts. Hides the 10% alcohol well.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Nice and large beige head releases candy and cinnamon aroma. Dark bottle colored copper body. Taste of nuts and chocolate with still nice bitterness for a long and warm palate.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
750ml bottle in a tulip. Pours deep brown with a lacy, beige head. Aroma of chocolate and caramel and pale malts, some spicy yeast, dark fruits, light bitterness, and some alcohol. Flavor the same with a decent blend but a little too much alcohol that is not hidden well. Average texture. Not a bad beer, but not the best.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
The thyme and bitter orange flavors blend very n’icely into this yeasty ale but an off-putting note in the aftertaste ruins it somewhat.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
750 ml bottle poured into tulip. Translucent reddish-brown hue with an enormous white head that recedes in a couple of minutes, but leaves some nice lacing. Primarily yeasty aroma with notes of sour cherries and some cheese. The first couple of sips were slightly metallic, but I never noticed it after that. Overall, the flavor is pleasantly sweet and malty with a nice wintry spice profile of cinnamon and nutmeg. The mouthfeel is exceptionally smooth, with no evidence of alcohol despite its 10% ABV.
