POPE, Philly tap ($7.50): Pours a brown color with a beige head. Aroma is a small amount of hops, yeast, a load of fruitiness, and a hint of spice. Body is not as substantial as expected. The tap was perhaps low in carbonation. The beer was lightly sweet, with a lot of fruitiness and a low amount of hop bitterness. It wasn’t as heavily malty as expected, but there was a solid malt presence of course. I was a bit underwhelmed.

Aroma: semi dry yet fairly gentle , mild sugars , some salt, fruit with hint of vanilla. Alcohol nicely subdued as wrap. 7+
Apperance: slightly hazed dark amber with medium plus creamy dark beige cap. Some lace on glass. 4-
Taste/Palate etc. Peppery front with quit hoppy following. Fruity sweet mid , some prune with brown sugars. Lighter fresh yeast elements. Nice but I this residual sweetness would benefit from dry hop top notes which are a bit missing here.

Dark amber color with reddish 1 finger head. Aroma of cider, vinegar, brown sugar, butter, nuts, yeast. Taste is light bitter, medium sweet , alcohol at the end. Light body, soft carbonation, oily texture. Nice one for cold winter times.

Strong coriander, yeast and biscuit aromas. Deep brownish color with a magenta tint and medium foam. Full mouthfeel of caramel, yeast, pear, pineapple and red grapes. The finish is very sweet and tart. Overall, alcohol is well masked and carbonation is high. Very well balanced and flavorful. I’d give this an A rating.

On tap at Bavarian Lodge. Really nice dark fruit character and a good bit of spice through the finish. Full body and quite chewy. Really nice beer.

Bottle 75 cl. Typical dark Belgian beer but not particularly interesting. A bit flat and not very flavorful aroma. For this kind of beer the proper trappiste brands are better and similarly priced. Rochefort 8, Westmalle Tripel and Chimay Blue will blow this brew out of the water compared side by side.

Maroon in color with a small head and light lacing. Has a fruity aroma and taste (apricot?) and unfortunately a little metallic on the finish. Didn’t like it at first but it grew on me....a little.
