On tap at Bottleworks, pours a dark amber brown with a small tan head. Aroma of candied fruits, caramel, yeast, light molasses and sweet roasted malt. Flavour of candied sugar, dried dark fruits, caramel and Belgian yeast. Sort of like a light Belgian barley wine. Very enjoyable.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Hair6a11 (929) - Illinois, USA - DEC 9, 2011
On tap; pour is murky dark brown, with amber highlights, in this glass. Modest, off white head in this glass. This brew is heavy on the dark fruits, and dark malts really. This beer is heavy on the dark fruits initially. There is a light, hoppy bite present. Dark malts dominate the hops, however. Anyway, a nice strong, but a little simple
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 rosenbergh (3145) - Helsinki, FINLAND - DEC 9, 2011
750 ml bottle. Finland.
Dark brown colour with nice small creamy light tan head.
Sweet caramel, toffee, gravy, dark fruits, apple and bready malt.
Bready malt, sweet caramel, mild bitterness, Belgian yeast, mild alcohol and dark fruits in flavour. Alcohol warms. Smooth and enjoyable. Très bien.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 yesyouam (951) - Fairport, New York, USA - DEC 9, 2011
N’Ice la Chouffe is a murky brown ale with a soft, smooth khaki head that fades to a film and leaves decent lacing on the glass. Crumbles accumulate in the bottom of the glass. Aroma of alcohol, candied fruit, apple, cherry, nectarine, tobacco and hay. It’s pretty full bodied and quite smooth with pretty dry finish. It’s richly flavored and just a touch sweet. It’s pretty complex with notes of peach, must, tropical fruit, leather, tobacco, cider, phenol and, later on, chocolate and fortified wine. It’s a touch bitter at the end and quite warming. This is a pretty classy affair. It’s a big bottle, so make sure you share. Very enjoyable; it’s kind of a flavor adventure.
3.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 dyetube (982) - McKinney, Texas, USA - DEC 7, 2011
On tap at the common table. Pours a deep brownish amber with a thin tan head. The aromas are cinnamon, gingerbread. The mouthfeel is sweet, sticky and bread with a medium body. Great beer! Cheers!
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Mad_Ferret (460) - SWEDEN - DEC 7, 2011
Bottle.
Hazy dark reddish brown with a big dirt white head.
Sweet aroma with dried fruits, syrup, butterscotch and toffee, tobacco, leather, spice and some alcohol heat.
Taste goes in the same range but there’s a bit harsh and very mouth drying bitterness of tobacco and spice.
Bigger body with lively mushy carbonation and a slight sticky mouthfeel.
Quite good and decently complex but a bit rough on the palate.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Palme (1200) - Bergen, NORWAY - DEC 6, 2011
Tap @ Baran, Bergen. This one pours a near clear deep deep ruby-amber body with a small heavy lacing off-white head. Candy-sweet aroma, it smells almost like sweet fruity and caramelly snow! Really nice stuff. Average to soft carbonated with a mild sticky to oily mouthfeel Full-bodied with sweet flavors of both ripe strawberries, candy sugar, Belgian-yeast and a nice warming touch of alcohol in the aftertaste. Good stuff, not to Christmasy but really nice!
4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 MPosey (130) - , Georgia, USA - DEC 4, 2011
Pours an almost Cola like color with an offwhite head which disappates but still laces nicely. Malt and yeast aromas abound. Initial sparkly attack which fades to a nice malty/sweet finish with a long aftertaste. Very nice beer.
