(Bottle) This one seemed to be in a hurry, upon opening the foam exploded and parts of the beer ended up on my kitchen floor. Seriously annoying! So what about the beer that didn’t run away? Dark reddish brown colour with huge, but rather brief, beige head, leaving lots of lacing. Huge, fruity nose with dark fruit, orange, banana and a hint of ginger. Rather vinous. Malty, fruity, vinous taste with notes of chocolate, orange, yeast and herbs (spiced with thyme and curacao). Malty sweetness. Full body, smooth mouthfeel. Fiery and warming. Moderate hops, overshadowed by dark fruit, malt and herbs. Very nice beer (but beware when you open the bottle).

Pours dark clear brown with a crystalline tan head. Large chunks of lace are left on the side of the glass as the head settles. Aroma of ripe plum, toffee, heavy rum and spicy hops. The body shows alcohol and sweetness very strongly. Flavours of toffee, salt, rum, prunes and spicy hops. Warming finish. Perhaps a little too sweet and cloying overall, but enjoyable nonetheless.

750ml bottle. Pours a slightly hazy dark brown with amber highlights and a large long lasting light tan head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of raisins, plums, caramel, thyme, cherries, and corriander. Taste is slightly sweet and spicy with notes of raisins, plums, caramel, cherries, and spices with a mild hop bitterness. Full mouthfeel with good carbonation. Another wonderfull beer from d’Achouffe.

UPDATED: JUL 21, 2007 Dark ruby/chestnut red with a small & coarse-bubbled head. Spicy sweet aroma, with blackcurrant, cherry, plum, curacao, cinnamon, thyme, raisins, vanilla, sugar & alcohol. Taste was full & rounded, again very spicy and sweet - caramel, cherry, honey, cinnamon, dark sugar, molasses, alcohol and much more. A huge malt-profile. Slight hoppiness in the finish but the emphasis is definitely on the malt. Mouthfeel was quite thick, not much carbonation. Very nice, indeed.

UPDATED: APR 7, 2007 750ml bottle 2006 edition. Pours a dark red tinged brown, with a fizzy one finger head that fades quickly to a thin swirling cap and ring. The lacing is very thin, and slides away almost immediately. Smell; the aroma is pretty subdued, so it’s a bit hard to pick anything out at first. The first aroma I can pick out once this warms up some, is the curacao. Then some of the sweet caramel malts, followed by the spices. Taste; the flavor is definitely more pronounced the the smell was. Very spicy up front, with a flavor I’m having a hard time figuring out, that must be the thyme. The curacao makes it’s presence felt with a bit of a bitter orange flavor, and then this finishes with some caramel and chocolate. Surprisingly the alcohhol does not show itself at all in the flavor. It’s only noticeable in the warming of my belly, and the slight difficulty I’m having in focusing with the bottle almost now finished Now that’s a different animal. This is like no other beer that I’ve had, and definitely one for a cold night, but overall this one is a bit overly spiced for my tastes. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with a an almost dangerous drinkability with the 10% abv being nearly undetectable.

Hazy brown hue, with a fluffy beige head, leaving laces, yeasty, spicy nose of herbal thym, with a subtle provençal herb notes, with a fruity raisiny, an orangeish-curaçao accent, some toasted malts, sweet candy sugar, and a coriander aroma follows through a full-bodied palate with a crisp, yeasty, toasted malt character, with candy brown sugar, with some herbs spiciness, maybe thym, sweet curaçao, with a raisiny and plummy fruitiness, within a comforting warmthness mouthfeel from his 10%, leading towards a malty, fruity finish.
