Poured a murky brown with a small, disappearing off white head. Aroma of sweet malt and some caramel. Medium body, flavour similar to the aroma.

Clear dark red brown. Airy iffwhite head disappears quickly. Aroma has malt, caramel, dried fruit and whiffs of alcohol. Perhaps coffee in the long nose. Flavour is similar with solid, warming alcohol and a little spice later on.

330 ml stubby brown bottle served after some warming in a Belgian snifter. Best before 6/2016. Poured, with some sediment, into a Belgian snifter. Hazy dark brown body is topped by a small semi-durable head. Splotchy lacing. Aroma: rich, lightly sweet and very complex with a touch of alcohol. Flavor: Rich, complex and slightly bitter. Pronounced suggestions of dark fruits including dried plums. Also a bit nutty, spicy and bready. O: An Xmas ale that is neither sweet nor very spicy, but does have high, partly hidden, ABV.

Bottle. Pours deep brown with light brown head - good retention and lacing. Aroma is mild with some citrus peel, cherries and candi sugar. Flavor is mild but good - deeply caramelized malts dominate, some notes of cherry and plum - with quite a bit of alcohol bite on the finish and some lingering hop bitterness and alcohol astringency. I’m drinking this out of season, but I imagine that this would be a very nice holiday warmer - as a Belgian dark ale it is big and has a gravity to be reckoned with, something like a barleywine really.

Brown to russet red, this nutty sweet beer promises much but doesn’t quite live up to the hype. Even the nuttiness disappoints.

Cor marrom escuro, turva. Espuma boa, bege e média persistência. Aroma de frutas escuras, secas e tostado. No paladar um alcoólico que remete ao vinho, encorpada, frutada e vivaz. Retrogosto levemente amargo. Excelente para os dias frios. Harmonização com carnes intensas e queijos temperados e roquefort.

Deep cola colour with inch high aerated beige head. Aromas of plums, dates, currants, figs, toffee and spices abound. The taste is expectedly sweet - candi sugar, the dark fruits and spices are all there. Delicate light hoppiness in the finish that stops it being cloying. Nice full body and chewy. Great winter sipper.

Pours cloudy medium amber with two fingers of rocky tan head, excellent retention and good lacing. (4/5) Nose is caramel, dark stone fruit, candi sugar, Belgian yeast, orange peel, mild spice. (8/10) Taste is moderately strong sweet, mild bitter. (8/10) Full bodied, low carbonation and creamy texture, mildly boozy finish. (4/5) Really mild booziness, with the alcohol perhaps contributing to the overall sweetness, but otherwise present only as a mild warming. Pleasant enough, and a fairly standard BSDA - to the extent that there’s such a thing as a “standard” BSDA - but hellaciously expensive for what it is. Good? Yep. Great? Mmmm… maybe, maybe not. Worth the price? Probably not. (16/20)

Fles33cl. Kleur amber/bruin met creme schuimkraag. Die vrijwel meteen dood valt. Geur kruidig en rood fruit Smaak zoet en fruitig, maar vooral kruidig en geroosterde mout. Stevig en warm.
