4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 marcus (3763) - Sacramento, California, USA - OCT 4, 2004
From the 2002 bottling. This dark amber beer pours with a tall lacy tan long-lasting head, eliciting a pleasant malty aroma. There is a concomitant strong malt flavor with a chocolate finish. As the beer warms, various spice flavors become apparent. In my opinion, this is the best brew from Achouffe.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 rickgordon (3758) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - NOV 30, 2005
75 cl Bottle.
Dark red-brown, not the greatest head. Tidbitty nose, along with dates, figs and almonds. Body is huge. Salty at first, then almond plays first violin. Very malty, with a dried fruit feel and in the finish the residulal sugars show off.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 caesar (3722) - Bunnik/Utrecht, NETHERLANDS - FEB 16, 2002
UPDATED: JAN 14, 2005 This winterbrew by Chouffe did not fill me with enjoyment. The traditional chouffe taste was not well balanced and the alcohol content is just too present. A bit of a disappointment after all those great chouffe brews :-(
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 RichardGretton (3711) - Leicestershire, ENGLAND - MAR 12, 2003
Browny orange beer with a hefty head. A very vineous aroma and a very vineeous flavour with a bitter dry tinge. A good beer overall.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 ChainGangGuy (3682) - Canton, Georgia, USA - JAN 4, 2009
Appearance: Dark mahogany-hued body with an inch of creamy-looking, off-white head. Very delicate, powdery lacing on the down.
Smell: Sugary, boozy nose with notes of caramel, dried fruits, earthy spices, and orange extract -- it smells like a slice of fruitcake with a shot of liquor poured over top.
Taste: Sweet mix of dark candi sugar and caramel upfront followed by dried cherries and a shot of what you’d expect raisin schnapps to taste like. Small savory, peppery hint along with a taste of dried, bitter orange peel. Light bitterness throughout. Sip of spiced wine. The alcohol particularly comes through on the dry finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation. A bit chewy, a bit sticky.
Drinkability: The drinkability for this big, warming, spiced concoction is fair. Another fine beer from a fine brewery.

Very alcoholic flavor but with maltiness and hops that supports it
A touch of spice and fruit
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 ekstedt (3624) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - FEB 3, 2007
UPDATED: JAN 24, 2008 Draught at Bishops Arms, Avenyn, Göteborg, Sweden. Pours dark brown with a thick off-white head. Very sweet and complex malty aroma, with dried fruits, chocolate, and some spiciness, alcohol is clearly present but not assertive. Very smooth and creamy mouthfeel, a bit to sweet although there is a typical belgian dry edge.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 notalush (3617) - Denver, Colorado, USA - DEC 23, 2003
This is a solid offering - dark red/crimson with pillowy head - very inviting aroma of dark berries, yeast, some roastiness - spicy flavors (you can taste the thyme and orange peel), dark fruits - malty sweetness gets cut at the the end by an abrupt hop bite - high carbonation really tickles the palate - my favorite Chouffe ale so far.
