Bottle that I got free from a co-worker whose husband got it as a secret santa gift and doesn’t like good beer. Score! Pours cloudy light brown with a thin off-white head. Yeasty aroma with spice and sweetness. Sweet flavor up front giving way to spice and hop with a candi sugar finish. Not a big fan of the style, but this was good.

UPDATED: DEC 29, 2011 2004 bottle via Kevin. Pours to a beige bubbly creamy head atop a deep woody brown. Nice lacing. The aroma is mildly malty and figgy with a Belgian yeastiness and is woody-ish. Definite Curaҫao apparent in the aroma as well. Spicy with Curaҫao. Light Belgian yeastiness. Creamy and medium-full bodied. No discernable alcohol except a light warming of the gullet. 8, 4, 7, 4, 16 = 3.9; Tap 2011. Pours to a murky brown body with a white head and awesome lacing. Aroma is dry chocolate and toasted malt. Flavor is kind of like a scotch ale with light spices and apple. Sweet and metallic. The beer was very metallic up front but mellowed as I let it sit. Lingering on the palate. Medium body. 6, 4, 7, 3, 12 = 3.2

0.75l bottle courtesy of ogivlado (thanks!) who shared it with me and heavy. Poured a hazy reddish brown colour with a medium-big persistent off white head. The nose is complex, dusty, with notes of caramel malt, fruit (orange), some spices and alcohol. The taste is sweetish, alcohol again, sticky maltiness with some orangey notes. The thyme actually shows up in the taste, noticable near the end. Tasty, ok enough.

2002 Edition. Pours a very chunky chestnut brown from a careful pour into a tulip. Tan head quickly subsides to seim rim and surface. Caramel and alcohol aromas. Sweet and spicy (pepper, thyme - no hint of the corriander on the label). Dry, lasting aged-bitter finish.

Clear amber body with off-white head. The aroma is vinous, herbal and floral, but relatively light. The flavor is banana, spice, clove and caramel. Medium/light body with soft/tight carbonatiomn.

Bottle Vintage 2006: Pours a rusty brown auburn with a thick/dense tan head. The aroma has some dark Belgian malt character of toasted hints and dark fruits- fig, plum, vanilla, some spiciness (both spice and yeasty character) and an anise suggestion. Fluffy/crisp carbonation in the palate. The flavor has rich Belgian dark malt character. Smooth with toasted toffee, plum, dried figs, grape notes, toasted coconut shavings, some nondescript spiciness, a succinct earthy/peat-like note and a warm toasted finish. A very nice and complex Belgian Strong. I really like this brewery.

One of my favorite beers of all time. 750 ml bottle from BevMo Carmel mtn. Pours a very deep chocolate brown, Light lacing. Nose of dried dark fruits, such as plums, raisens.....maybe fig? As the beer sat it picked up more intense flavors of peach, apricot and some hops.

UPDATED: JUL 3, 2008 2006. cloudy dark brown. large brown head. malt , berry, herbs, and spices in aroma. lots of flavors. (lemon, peanuts, strawberries, other assorted tart berries, freshly mowed grass, unripe black seeded grapes, anise, licorice. sweet and sugary with tons of spices. lots of herbal notes. just wonderful. my favorite la chouffe. 2007 edition is not nearly as good, but i’m still keeping my 06 rating.
