3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 stobbe74 (2767) - DENMARK - FEB 14, 2010
Bottle. Pours a clear, dark amber beer with a big offwhite head. The aroma is malt, hops and sweetness. The flavor is sweet and hops. The palate is sweet. Overall an average beer.

This stuff was awesome! Nice astringent herbal aroma, the thyme is not as present as I thought it would be, but there are definitely powers at work here. Kind of a schnapps like bite, with some medicinal flavors, that meld very well with the chocolate and fruit going on. Some apricot, figs, plums and other delectable flavors are present. This is highly tasty, with a rich spicy finish, bravo!

Bottle at O’Briens. Thanks to whomever was responsible for this. Caramel, sweet vinous aroma. Quite vinous. Nice. <pun> Hazy amber color with yellowish small head. Sweet, creamy, milky to start. Sweet sugar notes with mild bitterness then takes over. Very nice and easy-drinking.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 eaglefan538 (2726) - Wilmington, Delaware, USA - JUN 11, 2006
Poured a murky orange brown color with a very fluffy head that laced great and lasted for the duration of the drink. The aroma was spicey with dark fruits (raisins, figs, plums), bananas. Flavor was pretty complex, spices most prominent, dark fruits, candy sugar, the whole nine yards typical of the style. The alcohol was definitely strong and somewhat astringent, as this could have used some aging. Mouthfeel was moderately bodied and somewhat creamy for a Belgian. Enjoyable.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 stouby (2725) - Holbæk, DENMARK - DEC 26, 2005
Bottle, at home.
A dark brown beer with a light brown head, mostly diminishing, fine lacings. Aroma heavy malty (brown sugar, figs, chocolate, orange) moderate hoppy. Flavor heavy sweet ending in moderate bitter, fine balance. Medium body, creamy, flat carbonated, you don’t feel the strength.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Silphium (2711) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - FEB 24, 2004
2003 vintage. Poured deep red-brown with a creamy medium light tan head leaving nice lacing on the glass. Aroma had a touch of orange peel, yeast and dark sweet fruit. Flavor was classic Belgian Strong, with a yeasty, bready beginning leading to fruit development and perhaps a hint of cherry in the aftertaste, supplemented by a touch of orange peel and alcohol in the finish. Sweet and fairly complex, but not among the best examples of the style; there is nothing groundbreaking or innovative about this beer, but it is still tasty.
4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 tupalev (2708) - Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 10, 2006
Shared with blankboy, gregclow, and hogtown harry, thanks for the bottle blankboy. Dark brown, medium bubbly off white/orange head, looks nice. Alcohol, spice, sweet aroma. Wonderful taste! Lots of spice, lots of malt, some alcohol. Full bodied for the style, yet balanced with a perfect amount of carbonation. A near perfect taste for the style. Bloody lovely.
