A very hazy, ruby/brown colored beer. It has a thick, light beige head. An aroma of raisins, caramel and sweet prunes. The taste has some spices, like pepper, with notes of dark fruits. Very rich taste overall. A warm feeling in your mouth, at the end. A very good beer.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 scraff (2118) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - APR 25, 2005
Deep brownish crimson, thick light tan head. Complex nose of spices, berry, dried apricot, dark candy sugar, citrus, herbs, and a hint of wet earth. Flavor is similar with spiced up front sips that gain a near perfect bittersweet hoppiness in the end. This one is all about the balance. Full bodied, zesty carbonation, warming, dry, bittersweet finish. Really nice....
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 BeerLimey (2112) - California, USA - JAN 27, 2003
Chocolate, licorice, wood and dark fruits in the aroma. Sweet, creamy, malty palate. Smooth milk chocolate coats the palate, while a citric spice in the finish provides good balance. Fair alcohol warmth in the finish without ever appearing too strong.
4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Dorwart (2110) - Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA - MAY 18, 2003
Limited edition 1999. Thin head with decent lacing. Excellent complex aroma. I can pull grapes, raisins and brown suger out of there. Deep mahogany/brown in color. Flavor is a little bit more mellow that I expected from the great aroma. Not very thick/heavy in density. Slightly sweet flavor with brown sugar, malts, prunes, etc. Finish is smooth with a plesant alcohol warming and is very slightly sour. A good quality "belgian ale" althought the label states that it is a barleywine. Either way it is still a quality brew.
