750ml bottle: Rusty brown pour with a pillowy head that settles into a long lasting ring. Moderate lacing. Very nice plum and caramel aroma. The body is thick, chewy but very drinkable. Lots of buttery sugar, light cocoa, dark fruits, candied fruits. Yum.

2005. Dark brown/ruby. Lively, fizzy, light brown cap. Earthy, peppery, funky yeast, dark fruits (mostly figs and raisins, some plum in there as well), spices, fresh herbs, sweet and roasty caramel malt, subtle floral and bitter hops, and a touch of warming alcohol. Aftertaste of pumpernickel, anise, caramel, earth, and the funk. Full, balanced palate. Well carbonated while at the same time soft and smooth. Excellent brew and is not pasteurized.

I don’t know why it is, but I just don’t see the big whoop regarding the Chouffe beers. This one was better than most. I’m rating one I had a couple years back and have one on hand here, a ’97. But, I don’t know why I’m keeping it. Maybe hoping that age will turn silver into gold. Doubt it tho.
Now you take the Chouffe Coffee Liquer and mmmmm, mmm!

UPDATED: JAN 24, 2008 Draught at Bishops Arms, Avenyn, Göteborg, Sweden. Pours dark brown with a thick off-white head. Very sweet and complex malty aroma, with dried fruits, chocolate, and some spiciness, alcohol is clearly present but not assertive. Very smooth and creamy mouthfeel, a bit to sweet although there is a typical belgian dry edge.

750ml bottle. Slightly hazy orange/amber body with a huge, foamy beige head. Complex aroma of sweet caramel, brown sugar, dry fruit, spices (coriander, timothy etc), yeast and a tiny but warming hint of alcohol. Possible to just there and sniff at the glass for eternity! Flavor is no disappointment, harmonic, warming, fruity, sweet, caramel, malt, sugar, raisins and spices. Full body and extremely delicious, alcohol is well hidden but very warming. Just love it.
