UPDATED: JAN 14, 2005 This winterbrew by Chouffe did not fill me with enjoyment. The traditional chouffe taste was not well balanced and the alcohol content is just too present. A bit of a disappointment after all those great chouffe brews :-(

Decent brown ale. Good head with very faint aroma. Flavor is lightly malty but not to the intensity I would expect for a Belgian Winter Ale.

Typically bombastic Achouffe yeastiness, and loads of malt. Nice Belgian barley wine.

Glossy dark amber brown pour with a medium head. Strong mix of spice-rack aromas. Decent mix of flavorings.

Gladly not an overactive belgian ale. Firm and steady carbonation. The nose is mainly spicy with a hint of orange marmalade and candi sugar. The finish is long and spicy (thyme).

Looks like a typical belgian ale. Smells like a box of potatoes. Taste lika an ordinary beligian ale. dAchoffes bottom listed beer.

2003 Vintage - Dark ruby, mostly clear body. Big creamy light-tan head. Looks very nice. Lacing is superb. The aroma is coriander, citrus, and thyme. The thyme really comes out in the flavor. Malt backs the spice up, minimal hops. Sweetness is big but not overpowering in any way. The thyme keeps coming back, if you are not a fan of thyme you may not like this one. Sticky body with a decent amount of alcohol in the finish.

750 pours amber brown with a monster head and little lace. The aroma is spicy and sweet smelling. The flavor is sweet and spicy with strong alcohol noted. The palate is medium rich for the style. Overall, pretty good.

(2002 bottle) The age didn’t affect the carbonation -- a gusher upon opening. Heck, after losing about 4 oz. and pouring another 4 into the glass, the foam in the bottle STILL made its way back to the top, ready to resume streaming down the side. Red brown body topped by a quickly dissipating beige head. Aroma is sweet, brown sugar, herbal, prune, coriander. Taste is sweet, brown sugar, coriander, toffee, herbal, some orange peel, dark fruit. Finish is dominated by moderately strong alcohol. Full, moderately sticky body.

Brown, no head. Cedery, woodsy aoma. very earthy and woodsy flavor, with a undercurrent of fruit - plums, raisins. Slightly medicinal through the finish. Maybe a bit of cinnamon in the aftertaste. NIce beer!
