Bottle at Brick Store. Pours dark amber with thick tan head. Aroma of Belgian yeast and dark fruits. Taste of the same. Can taste the alcohol. Still good beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Great beer that is perfect for a cold day with some nice braised meat or stew.

Light aroma of herbs and roast. Dark and cloudy with a lingering head. Smooth on the palate. Malty roasted taste with a heavy dose of sweetness and some hops.

Bottle at a Bruce Tasting, London - I think. Pours ruby-brown with a foamy, off-white head. Some light sediment. Dark malt nose with brown sugar, ripe fruits, prunes. Big sweet flavor with strong alcohol presence, semi-dark malts, prunes, figs, Belgian candi sugar. Full bodied with average and very creamy carbonation. Hot finish, lots of smoothed sugar, semi-dark malts, light toffee. Lots of lingering heat, ripe fruits, toasted sugars. Big, decent.

UPDATED: JAN 14, 2005 This winterbrew by Chouffe did not fill me with enjoyment. The traditional chouffe taste was not well balanced and the alcohol content is just too present. A bit of a disappointment after all those great chouffe brews :-(

Decent brown ale. Good head with very faint aroma. Flavor is lightly malty but not to the intensity I would expect for a Belgian Winter Ale.

Quite bitter, low carbonation. The alcohol is pretty well hidden. A nice winter warmer.

1999 consumed in 2003. Brown and cloudy with a real fizzy carbonated head. The yeast from the bottom of the bottle fizzed alone at the sides of each glassful. Dark fruits in this one as opposed to the lighter fruit in the Soliel. Nearly identical finish. maybe more spicy and complex. Surely hides the 10+% very well.
