2002 (i know i should’ve stashed it away for next year but just couldn’t) rich chocolate brownie color, spicy-strong alcohol nose. thick creamy ivory head which does the lacey cling thang. pretty vinous and strong for my taste, but it was certainly tasty in a peppered plum sort of way. the label said brewed with thyme and curacao peel which sounded pretty darn cool.

2002, This poured a mahogany color with a small off whte head and some lacing. Rather weak sweet aroma, which also included some clove spice, and maybe even alittle chocolate. taste was orange, some licorice, certainly spices were noted here. This had a very lively, bubbly mouthfeel. Alcohol warming on the way down.

2003 vintage. Pours a dark brown with splashes of ruby. Small tan head. Nose is watery cocoa, spice, yeast, and hints of malt. The taste is comprised of fruit, more spice(nutmeg and coriander?), dark chocolate, and perhaps anise. Very carbonated mouthfeel and has that "sharp" feeling associated with it. It finishes decently enough with little bitterness. Pretty good beer!

This was a prety good seasonal. It poured a reddish-brown color with an off-white head. The taste was a mixture of malt and spices, with alot of effervescence. Not bad, and something to try.

I guess I’m a bit out on a limb here, but I just don’t find this too special. The whole thing is too dominated by treacle toffee and sweet molasses for my taste. Ended up with a massive head, however carefully I poured it. At first glance it appeared deep chocolate brown but, holding the glass up to the light, the underlying rich cherry colour was apparent. The aroma is vaguely herbal and spicy, but principally molasses and candy sugar. More of the same in the flavour. Treacle toffee. Very rich but, although there is enough acidity to prevent it from being too cloying it is still rather syrupy in texture for me. Quite nice, but nothing to rave about as far as I’m concerned. The high alcohol level is not intrusive. Anyone else find those cute gnomes intensely irritating by the way? Bottled (750ml), from beersofeurope.co.uk

Thanks to eyedrinkale for this ridiculously old 1996 version at the welcome visitors gathering at obriens. The pour was dark brown murky red color with relatively no head and no lacing to speak of. The aroma was completety and utterly funky...barnyard, leather, lemon, tartness and sourness.. complete funkiness! Then what in the holy hell happened when I tasted it...naturally not ONE single thing I found in the aroma was present in the flavor...in fact this could be one of the worst 180’s ive ever seen between the nose and the flavor. This tasted JUST like iced tea...wtf??? Sweet maltiness, some peach and yeast with a ginger shot...but just like iced tea...i swear it was the strangest thing ever! Slightly sour finish..medium bodied.
