Scauca (226), Lovere, Italy Nov 6, 2007 Updated: Jan 3, 2008 2003 Bottle, lovely cellared. Dark brown with a big not that lasting creamy coffee head. It starts quite slow, from obviously cocoa, coffee, and dried fruits, through banana and vanilla, to a sensual warming spicy vinous and a luxury cherry in alcohol. Full silky bodied, just a bit too alcohol for me. No trace of hoppiness but well balanced. Nice indeed.
Finn (1072), Tromsø, Norway Aug 10, 2008 Bottle 0,75l. Dark amber brown colored. A shortlived creamy head. Sweet fruity aroma. Complex flavor of fruit, caramel and malt. Carbonated. Sourish bitter aftertaste. A lasting dry finish. Alcohol hidden, but shines through by it’s warming effect. BelgianBeerGal (882), Sabbatical in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Aug 10, 2008 75cl bottle from 2006. Pours out like a Coke: see-through brown and fizzy carbonation with a quick reducing head. Not a real big aroma but a little fruit and sugar. Surprisingily light flavour and "thinish" mouthfeel. Sweet flavour with candied fruit and a nice spicy finish. Good but nothing amazing. (Rating #1876) KAggie97 (1884), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA Aug 9, 2008 Last bottle with my Buster boy. You’ll always be my ’good boy,’ lil’ Buster! 2006 Vintage. Pours deep brown but body is too thin to be taken seriously at this point, and the quickly fading head doesn’t help to build any anticipation to explore this beer any further. NFL "season recaps" flash across the screen, my dog lies still next to me. I pet Buster and then take a sip: my tongue is tickled by a syrupy candied sugar mix, maple extract, and blended raisin. Tingly and full mouthfeel. A great brew to cap off a great dog. Maybe "Nice Chouffe" is Belgian for "good dog?" In my mind, it means that. Daddy loves you, Buster. Always. Borresteijn (427), Amstelveen, Netherlands Aug 7, 2008 On tap, had this several times in winter @ Café Gollem. This is the stuff that makes you go through the storms of winter to a bar. Nice dark reddish/brown appearance, off white head. Aroma of dark fruits, brown sugar, some alcohol, some yeast. Flavour is just perfect, really smooth flavours of dark fruits, molasses, some spices, brown sugar. Soft alcohol finish. In general the alcohol is very well hidden. Soft palate, making this highly drinkable. Very, very N’Ice.
