Cask Days 2013. Pours a murky brown with a tan, bubbly head. Aroma has notes of bourbon, and not a lot else. Not bad, but i canít get much else. Taste is sweet with a malty, sweet aftertaste. Medium body with a low-medium carbonation. Very syrupy mouth feel. Overall not my thing. Sweet and syrupy with a tinge of tart.

Bottle, shared with TylerDurden, purchased at the brewery. Kudos for a plain but cool label with a little "V For Vendetta" tribute! This pours as an amber-brown, very hazy, with a lively light golden head. Aromas and flavours of fruity caramel, light vanilla, and a touch of leathery funk. Not sure if the funk is intended or if this is a bit "off", but it is not unpleasant. The mouthfeel is a tad on the thin side for such a high ABV, but this beer isnít boozy or alcoholic. Kind of an odd duck, but I didnít mind it.

750 mL bottle from the brewery served cool in a tulip glass. Deep ruby-mahogany with a fair tan head. Rich, sweet, fruity maltiness with a savoury note and alcohol, peppery, a little warm spice, strawberry jam, not getting much hops. Medium-full body with fairly full carbonation. Rich malts, quite fruity, infected - yeast with a weird roasted nut note, infected...really??, more strawberries, disappointing. Had potential as a very malt-forward barley wine, but failed.

UPDATED: NOV 8, 2014 Bottle bought at the Nickelbrook brewery. Overall a delicate aroma of sweet malt, cinamon, spices, biscuit, honey, gingerbread. Taste is mild sour malt, sugar, bitter fuits and a mild sour finish. Alcohol warming and hidden. An absolute delicacy and mind blowing for me!

Bottle, thank you for the rare treat Colin!! Very hazy chestnut brown. Pretty murky. Foamy head that goes away quickly. Bourbon, alcohol, wood, fruit in aroma. Taste features a pretty thick yet foamy body. Heavy bourbon sweetness up front. Lots of caramel sweetness behind and a big alcohol burn from middle to end. Lots going on here. Spicy peppery notes abound as well. Despite the thick body, tastes comes off a bit thin after a while - not sure why that is. In any case, very nice brew - a pleasant sipper on another -20+ night.

Bottle from brewery. Aroma of plum and some other dark fruits. Taste has plenty of slightly tart plum, and bourbon as well. Not great as far as Barley Wines go, but certainly more than drinkable.

(On tap at Brydenís, TO, Dec 27 2013) Poured a very murky medium brown with a bubbly, lacy whitish head. At first the aroma is a total bourbon barrel bomb, but as the nose becomes accustomed to that I got more sweet toffee malt, mix of tree fruit, light spices, a bit of booze. Flavour was again dominated by bourbon and wood at first. As it warmed and I became accustomed I got a lot more malt and fruit. Quite sweet caramel/brown sugar, very apple-heavy with some spices: reminded me a lot of cold mulled cider really. The sweetness was tempered by a bit of cider-like tang/tart character towards the finish along with a substantial amount of alcohol dry-down. Barrel was always there even if it wasnít the sole flavour as at first blush. Body medium-full, a little sticky, carb moderate, didnít hide its ABV. This was not bad, interesting even, but didnít come together for me. It was either too much barrel or too much sweet cider, and while there was a lot going on it wasnít a very nuanced sipper.

Decent b-wine, if a little barrel heavy. Lots of bourbon on initial smell plus booze and some sort of spice. Finishes with a good tang and some sweetness. Pours cloudy reddish brown with good head and lacing. As with any barrel aged beer, too much barrel and not a solid backbone leads to a lack of support for a heavy beer. Tap at Arrow and Loon.

Bar Volo. Brown and creamy looking, lace. Fruit and malt up front, a sipper. A little sour attributing to the bourbon. Not the style straight up but ok.
