Bottle, shared by ametras. Black pour with rich foamy brown head. Aroma is quite winey, nice red wine notes, light leather, quite oaky, definitely get the pilot noir barrel. Taste is bitter, quite roasty, light winey notes, oaky tannic finish, light ash. Palate is full bodied with med carbonation. Tasty.

Bottle from LCBO. Aroma of sweetish red wine with undertones of chocolate and raspberries. Very dark with light brown head. Bit thinner than expected, but still nice. Better than expected.

750 mL bottle under the Winey Bastard name. Opaque purple black pour, tall foamy dark tan head. Definitely a pinot noir aroma and flavour, lesser so on some of the usual stout characteristics of roasted malt. Heavier body.

Smell of the grape right off the top. A bit too sweet though. Taste is more wine followed by a rich chocolatey flavour. Barrel aging seems to be the next evolution of craft. Not sure wine barrels are the way to go. Share with your friends. A little is more than enough.

Opaque black pour, big dark brown head. Aroma is very tart, and vinous, with big Red wine notes, along with some strong balsamic vinegar notes with some solid roasty, dark, burnt malts in the background. The mouth feel is very full, and oily, and the carb is medium. The finish is quite roasty, some soy, and burnt coffee, mixed with some subtle vanilla from the barrel.

It pours basically opaque black; the head is tan and foamy. The aroma has notes of: pinot noir, slight barnyard funk, coffee, and charcoal. The taste is light sour that finishes medium bitter; there are notes of: charcoal, sour wine, coffee, and black cherries. The palate is full bodied, has medium astringency ; little carbonation, and a long finish. Overall, pretty dang good.

UPDATED: JUL 4, 2015 750ml bottle. Pours a very large amount of frothy brownish head and has a dark brown appearance. Big sticky lacing. Aromas of roasted malts, toffee and coffee. Flavours are coffee, resin, hints of raisin, a little bit sweet. The alcohol is more noticeable in the finish. The wine like/pinot noir taste comes more in the finish as well, hard to distinguish really but can also be a merlot or even shiraz. Has that winey, sour like mouthfeel. Somewhat bitter as well. Has sort of a drying sensation on the palate. Overall, pretty good and what?s expected of a stout aged wine barrels, giving Bolshevik Bastard a bit more character, like it needed any more. A bit pricey though.

Great sour brett-like aroma, sweet dark malt and chocolate. Completely black pour, with quickly dissipating foamy brown head. Tastes quite nice, upfront sour brett-like notes, finishes with cherry and caramel notes with a bitter leafy finish. Great flavors, could use a bit of age perhaps though to round out. Wish the body was thicker, medium bodied and average carbonation. Quite a nice barrel aged beer.
