3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 gilvanblight (678) - Windsor, Ontario, CANADA - APR 5, 2013
Hazy brown pour with a significant head. Boozy spicy nose. Really boozy. Spices flowers and something sweet. Caramel. This is still all in the nose. I think this is where the "big glass" comes in. Wow an odd mouth. Very few beer qualities. I don’t really get any hops. It’s more like a mulled wine or something. Lots of spices and boozy warmth. Flowers. Fruit. Just odd. I have no idea how to rate this. It’s just not beery enough for me. Something makes me think Christmas. Glad to have tried this, don’t think I need another.

2013-02-10. Hazy dark amber body, beige head fades. 3++ Woody lightly sour aroma, fruity lightly yeasty cherry. Flavour is similar, lightly woody, yeasty tart sour cherry currents. 6+ Smooth average plus to medium palate. Okay doesn’t quite come together for me. (I found it slightly more cohesive in a second bottle later in the month that I didn’t take notes for.) Bottle at Rhino Winter Festival, Toronto
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 pootzboy (1451) - Hawgville, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 31, 2013
750ml crown capped wax dipped bottle. Pours a murky dark copper color wich a fluffy white cap. Nose is spice, malts and a sour earthiness. Flavour is quite pleasnt for a big ale - toasty maltiness with fruits, spice, hebal bittering and some tame sweetness wrapped in smoky woody under tones. Long finish where some complexity builds, rounded smoothness is evident here. Quite an easy driniking ale with some subtle complexity. I’ll buy more if I see it.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Spab (1645) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 11, 2013
750 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a cloudy dark amberish brown with small cream-coloured head. Aroma is butter, oak, cinnamon and raisin. Flavour is buttery bourbon oak barrel with some raisin, cinnamon and other spice. Alcohol is subtle for 8.5%. Some intruiging notes but less than the sum of its parts.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 robinvboyer (2576) - Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 10, 2013
750ml wax dipped bottle from the LCBO.
Dark hazy brown, small off white head. The aroma smacks of sweet/sour vanilla oak. Reminds me big time of a bbq sauce i made with jack daniels. There are also hints of raisins and plums, and some big sugary malts. Jesus the bourbon barrel just beats the shit out of this beer. Its all over the place. Dipping in and out. The barrel is there, then gone, then back. Subtle spicy notes, lots of fruit, but the spicy, sour, sweet bourbon barrel oaky vanilla just takes over everything. The alcohol is really well hidden though, and the body is a little thiner than i expected. Interesting to say the least,
