750 ml bottle from LCBO, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. 2013 vintage.

App.: Clear copper with a decent tan head. Aroma: Spicy, almost smells infected, bourbon barrel character comes through, quite a bit, boozy, peppery, light Belgian yeast character, seems a bit harsh. Palate: Medium+ body, somewhat relaxed effervescence. Flav.: Lots of booze and barrel, some fruitiness and quite spicy, fairly rich malts, peppery, some Belgian character – more phenol than ester for sure; dry with gentle bitterness and a long, boozy, spicy, woody finish.

Not something I could drink much of. A shame to have opened a big bottle...

Great aroma and flavour from the bourbon barrel aging. Flavours of vanilla and caramel are combined with earthy flavours of oak barrels.

Murky amber pour with reddish tinge and a medium sized off white head. Aroma of malts, caramel, dried fruits, nutmeg and bourbon. Taste of malts, caramel, raisins, orange peel, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, slightly woody and bourbon. Full bodied, perfect carbonation, just the right amount of bourbon notes complimenting the beer. Very nice beer actually.

Soft spicy fruity aroma with a hint of bourbon. Aroma follows though into the taste ....the flavour is complex...on the downside there is a lingering boozy aftertaste.

[Bottle (750ml) shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, JoeMcPhee, jercraigs & mabel -- c/o JoeMcPhee. 2013 vintage] Pours a dark amber with a small bubbly frothy off-white head. Really nice aroma of light spices, bourbon, fruit, caramel malt and cinnamon. Malty flavour along with some wood, light spices, dark fruit and bourbon. Average bodied. I quite enjoyed it, well done.

The nose is softly spicy. A little bit of cinnamon and some nice soft spice. A little bit of bourbon and a touch of vegetal character. Nice enough, but it doesn’t seem quite integrated for me.

750ml bottle shared by joemcphee with me, blankboy, jercraigs, mabel and gregclow. Hazy ruby, decent off-white head. Sweet and fruity malty aroma, yeast and black pepper. Taste follows - dry yeast, licorice on top of oak, bourbon comes through as it warms. Light body, slick, okay carbonation, building vanilla/plasticene weird sweetness in the finish. Not amazing, interesting.

2013 vintage. 750 mL bottle from the LCBO, served in a snifter. Pours hazy toffee with a slight reddish note. There is a minimal tan head that fades to a thin remnant and leaves a minimal amount of lace. The nose has notes of slightly sour fruit, oak, vanilla, raisins, earth and perhaps cinnamon. The flavour is medium sweet with toasted malts, oak, bourbon, figs, toffee and just a hint of sour mash. A slight spicy note comes through towards the finish, which is long and malty with touches of cinnamon, orange peel, bourbon barrel and pepper. On the palate, it is medium in body with a milky texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a moderately complex barrel-aged spiced beer. The appearance and nose were a little disappointing, but it started to shine in the finish. 2014-02-22
