Nickel Brook Cuvée is a rich auburn reserve ale, brewed with premium European and North American malts, Caribbean Demerara and a special mix of fruits, herbs and spices. This beer is then blended with ale aged in bourbon barrels that results in a complex and unique final product. Enjoy it today, or lay it down in your cellar and savor the changes in character as it matures. Cheers!

Bouteille 2014, ouverture 2016. Nez de bourbon, épices, petits fruits. En bouche, c’est complexe, chaud, un merveilleux mélange du bourbon, d’épices, de caramel, de fines herbes et de fruit rouge. Excellente

pours unclear light brown, orange tint, with a bubbly white head offering good retention and lacing. very spicy aroma - cinnamon sticks, cloves, mint, dill, herbes de provence bouquet; tobacco, brown sugar and demerara sweetness, bourbon - with its vanilla peaks, wood astringency, light brett presence, lots of red fruits - cherries; pepper. foamy carbonation, light body, semi-sweet, tannic and very spicy finish. overly spicy but not necessarily overdone.

2015/04/13 - Pours a hazy amber colour and a thin, off white head with quickly dissipates. Aroma is caramel, plums, cinnamon, nutmeg, gingerbread, dough, oak and vinous notes. Taste is caramel, plums, dark fruit, spices (nutmeg, cinnamon, gingerbread) along with oak and dry vinous notes. Taste like a mix between a Christmas ale and the spices from a pumpkin ale. Mouthfeel is full with medium to low carbonation and a spiced, drying finish. Alright, but nothing exceptional. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Rich reddy-brown colour with an unfiltered look.Fluffy light tan head with good lacing. The nose is significant with elements of leather, prunes and lots of different spices. This is a well crafted seasonal ale. Complexity and balance are what it is all about. Nutmeg, cinnamon, ripe berries, vanilla and sweet caramel malts work well with the alcohol warmth. Nice semi-thick consistency and medium carbonation add to the xmas ale feel of this very well made ale.

2014 bottle with annoying wax seal. Nose is barrel, booze and fruit. Caramel, cinnamon, just lovely. Taste is really well balanced and satisfying. Spicy, fruity, barrel, whiskey, yum. Not super heavy. It’s a good sipper, but the bottle finishes too soon.

2014 version in a 750 ml bottle from the LBCO.

Appearance: Pours a deep brown colour with just over a finger of tan head with fairly short retention. Lacing is minimal.

Aroma: Sweet tobacco, spice box, bourbon, nutmeg, cloves.

Flavours: Leather, nutmeg, tobacco, bourbon, cloves, caramel and toffee.

Mouthfeel: Very very smooth with light carbonation.

Overall: The bourbon barrel aging really gave the 2014 version a lot of interesting oak characteristics I usually only find in older Spanish Rioja Gran Reservas. There is the tobacco and leather notes right off the bat and then there is a wack of spice notes I can only describe to as "spice box". I found similar characteristics with the 2014 Kentucky Bastard but this one is even better. I love the complexity and the fact it is not some overbearingly high abv.

To start, it took me about 15 minutes to dig the bottle out from thebfake waxy covering on the mouth of the bottle that seems to have been put there to denote that it’s a classy beer: why do this? Pours deep amber with a couple of cm of off-white head. Aroma of cherries, leather, honey and brandy. Tastes of the same, along with a taste of vanilla. Oily mouthfeel with lingering oaky (slightly unpleasant) aftertaste. 7.5% abv could be better hidden.

2014. 750ml bottle. Clear dark copper-reddish body, medium mocha dens head with good retention. Aroma of spices and herbs, oak barrel, gingerbread, sorrel, wine. Taste of bitter herbs, coriander, bourbon hints, malts, dried berries. Very nice.

Eructoblaster (3843) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 22, 2014
Bottle - 750ml (Vintage 2014 - 7.5% abv). Pours a cloudy, dark brown body with a thin off-ehite frothy head. Strong, rich malty/hoppy aroma with lovely Bourbon, dry fruits, and oaky hints. Alcohol is not too agressive. Its sharp malty/hoppy taste carries plummy, oaky, bourbon, and herbal notes. Ends with a long, robust, warming bittersweet finish. Interesting.

UPDATED: DEC 27, 2014 This is the 2013 vintage, and beyond whatever bourbon barrel aging they did, I aged this one a year in my cellar before opening it tonight near the end of 2014. What an assault on the senses this one is. I’m getting gingerbread, cinnamon, grapes, white wine and other things I won’t attempt to identify, on both the nose and palate. Everything tumbles into each other, vying to be the dominant one, with none succeeding, given there is so much going on. I don’t like it quite as much as its sister brew, Nickel Brook’s bourbon Barrel Aged Kentucky Bastard, but it is still a very complex, superior brew to most things out there in the beer market.
