3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle thanks to matt7215. Pours a nice brownish amber with thin white head. Aroma is obvious of tart, overripe fruit, caramel, and wood. Flavor matches well, with the addition of yeast, spice, a bit more tart than the aroma led, and a bit of earthiness. Mouthfeel is slightly slick and metallic, but just a bit and not overdone. Nice drink and a bit unexpected from the description on the bottle.

ABV 8.5%, 19 IBUs. Bourbon barrel aged. Pours a hazy copper amber with golden highlights and a lasting off white head. Spicy nose, all spice especially, caramel and dark fruits. Sweet raisins, fall spices, brown sugar, candied orange, full bodied. Complex, balanced, full-bodied. Really lovely.

Opened my 2013 Reserve Ale. Couldn’t wait. Real nice and am going to wait till December to open my other two bottles with my buddies. Smooth, malty, beautiful colour and aroma. The bourbon flavours are nicely present. I found this in Canadian LCBO.

Nickel Brook Cuvee 2013 Reserve Ale is aged in bourbon barrels, which helps give it its rich auburn colour. Its ingredients include European and North American malts, Demerara sugar, dried figs, orange peel, raisins, cinnamon, cardamon, all spice, black pepper and vanilla beans. All of these elements seem to balance out in a non-distinct aroma but very complex flavour. The raisins, all spice and Demerara sugar seemed to be the most dominant elements of this 8.5-per cent alcohol beer, which didn’t leave me with a good taste in my mouth.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
750 ml of the 2013 reserve ale aged in bourbon barrels, bought from my local LCBO. Not sure if they make a couple of different runs of this beer, as this one is bourbon barrel aged, which for the 2012 year, received it’s own category here at ratebeer. Part of the bourbon barrel run they’ve put out which includes Kentucky Bastard. Well they say go big or go home, and they certainly did with this beer. Nose of oak and maple. Pours a hazy dark brown. Thin tan head. Take a sip and - pow right in the kisser - with oak, apples, hint of cloves, and a background of that bourbon booze. Aftertaste has the bitterness of oak, which lingers. Thanks for really trying something different with this beer.

3.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
2008-01-31. Dark red-amber-brown body with a modest beige head. (3+) Very assertive first sip - fruit, cherry? pears, something else. Bitterness is light at first but finishes as a nice accent to a weird fruit character. Light alcohol, apples. (6+) Sweet aroma is rife with spice, odd spruce like notes. Average plus palate. Something odd about it. In the end I decide its some combination of cherry, and wood that I find strange. Did not really care for it to be honest. 6/3/6/3/12 - 3.0 2008 Vintage, Cask at Victory Cafe
2008-04-20. Dark amber body with a modest beige head. Sweet spicy aroma, underlying malt. Flavour is similar with a sweet malty base and light spice notes that linger long into the finish and aftertaste. (6+) Palate is slightly more full bodied than average, pleasantly so. Did not knock my socks off but this has just enough flavour to be interesting, and is quaffable enough to have a few of them. Possibly their best effort to date. Well done! 7/3/7/3/14 - 3.42007 Vintage On tap at Volo, Toronto

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
750 mL bottle with freakin’ wax over the cap. Strike one. Hazy brown with not much head. Oak (vanilla) up front in the nose, along with caramel, brown spice (kinda like toast with cinnamon and sugar), and a hint of fruit (pear maybe?). Somehow not the sum of its parts, though. The flavour is more muddled, with only the oak distinguishing itself. I was hoping for more from this one.

750ml bottle, 8.5% a/v. Gift from my brother for Christmas.
Pours a deep firey red with a nice tan head. Aroma is spicey, vanilla, and fruity. The taste is similarly rather fruity, and a little spicey, not really my flavour of choice. Tastes too fruity for me. Palate is also a little too sweet/fruity, overall not bad though.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
I wanted to like this one... Cloudy brown / amber body with generous beige head. Aroma of oak, sweet decomposing or fermenting fruits and blatantly overwhelming spiceyness. Flavor is very bitter and the unbridled alcohol contributes to an astringent, dry unpalatable mouthfeel. The ingredient list on the side of the bottle promotes the brewers’ ambitions but should also serve as a warning to the unassuming drinker (cardamom + vanilla... yeach).
