MrManning (1448), London, Ontario, Canada Apr 20, 2008 Bottle from the brewery- Pours a sparkling, slightly copper, golden liquid, beneath a frothed, but short lived foam. Nice grainy nose with a fresh cut grass type pungency, lemon zest and a dough contingent. The flavour profile is straight up sweet grains with some bready, fruity malts. Nice lemon zest component near the finish, with nice puckering astringency. Not sure why this is labeled a bitter. Earlier Rating: 8/14/2006 Total Score: 2.6 Bottle-Pours sparkling gold with a one finger white head. Not much lace. Aromas are faintly vegetal with a suprisingly good amount of malt, faint hops, grass. Taste is slightly sweet, herbal/hay, bread. Pretty good up until the buttery finish. At least it finished quick. Thanks J to tha Iz-on! pootzboy (870), Calgary/ Kitchener, Alberta, Canada Oct 13, 2007 Bottle from Brewery. Kim sez this is an ale with it’s own smooth character from kreusening.
Pours a lightly hazed honey gold smallish cap good lacing
Aroma is grainy, lightly woody-earthy
Good earthy cereal tastes..organic malts very demure hop presence (northern brewer?) to balance..leaves this malt accented with light earthy-twiggy-woodsy tones, rounded, mellow...the malt is earthy and grainy... no biscuits or bread sweetness...finishes clean and grainy light lemony bite in the finish with an earthy-grainy after taste.
Poor man’s kolsch made with organic malts and Kreusened...drinkable as hell. Earlier Rating: 4/30/2006 Total Score: 3 Soon to be renamed "Nickel Buck" and aimed at the buck-a-beer niche....so says John the owner...if this is buck-a-beer, gimme a case or two.
This is all malt, small batch cottage crafted pale lager with a medium body and a solid malt spine....this should sweep the buck-a-beer niche for taste and quality...pours a soft gold color with a fluffy 3 finger cap that lasts and laces the glass....Aromas of sweet biscuit dough, light fruity esters and some cedar hops. Front side is light and ciderythen the malts kick in and the finish is mellow, fruity with a large whacking biscuit after taste...best dollar beer out there!
Rcr84 (33), Canada Aug 4, 2007 Golden straw colour. Decent malty aroma. Short talk with a staff member at the brewery let me discover this is actually fermented as an ale. Great beer for the price to bad you can only get it at the brewery. Earlier Rating: 7/11/2007 Total Score: 3.7 Tried out of a bottle at the brewery. Labeled as draught but with a short coversation with a staff member found out it is a pale ale. Actually a very impressive beer especially since it is 24 for 24. Sadly it is only sold out of their store front but if I’m going through burlington again i will definatly be picking up a case. Lubiere (3324), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Feb 21, 2007 A pale yellow lager with a thin bubbled white head. Lightly lemony aroma, with loight sulfuric notes, grassy. In mouth, a rather biscuitty malt with light chalky notes, a bit of butter, but rather pleasant. Bottle from ProbstK. jerc (3217), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 7, 2005 Updated: Oct 10, 2008Pale yellow, small fluffy white head fades quickly. Sweet floral honey aroma. Slight butter notes. Flavour is on the sweet side, with just a touch of bitterness. Floral honey sweetness, mild herbal notes, buttercup. Average palate. meh. As Nickel Buck Lager before they changed the name.
