COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We kicked it up a notch with our Bolshevik Bastard Imperial Stout, aging it in Kentucky Bourbon barrels. The rich chocolate, coffee and dark fruit flavours from our Imperial Stout are married together with the vanilla, oak and warming alcohol from bourbon barrels. Together as one, the result is an incredible blend of aroma and taste. Drink it today, or cellar it to enjoy later as it matures.

Hop! C’est l’heure d’une gueuze.

750ml bottle. Dark brown body, medium chocolate head with average retention, but beautiful lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate, bourbon, coffee, blackberries jam, herbs, heavy cream. Taste of fudge, dark chocolate, herbs, vanilla, roasted malts, slightly boozy. Heavy and sweet, but nicely balanced.

Inky jet black pour. Medium sized creamy dark tan foamy head. Nose of sweet whisky, wood, alcohol, coffee and alcohol. Definite improvement with 2 year aging. Sweetness softened out, alcohol probably went up. Big mouthfeel with ample carbonation. Mild funk, and just the slightest mushroomy oxidation taint. The bourbon barrel isn’t forward at all. Milk chocolate. Espresso. Cherries and red grape skins. Modest vinous character. Sticky finish, but not nearly as "bad" as the fresh version. Quality craftsmanship.

Aroma of caramel, smoke, and coffee. Opaque near-black colour. Sweet front with mild bourbon and dark malt flavours heavy body with mild carbonation. Really good beer - really nice that the bourbon wasn’t too overpowering.

Nice thick tan head. Nose is soft bourbon with mild chocolate and a hint of vanilla. Taste features a nice range of tastes -- sweet chocolate, soft bourbon, rich dark fruit, vanilla, molasses and a solid touch of woody oak. These are supplemented by a nice creaminess, significant malt and is punched up by a solid effervescence. Improving with age as well.

(bottle) clear very dark brown colour with a small brown head; aroma of stewed fruit, wet wood; rich, balanced flavour with no finish

Bottle from an LCBO in Hamilton. Very dark. Aroma is rich, with lots of molasses, bourbon/vanilla, a dash if burnt sugar, soft finish that has just a touch of alcohol. It’s a very likeable beer, I’ll say that.

Quite possibly one of the darkest beers I’ve had in a while. Jet black, medium dark mocha head. The aroma is a slap in the face of spicy bourbon, and earthy, sweet wood, with subtle vanilla and charred brown sugar. As it warms some of the roasty malts come through. There are hard to find amongst the barrel flavours, but they are there. The body is thick, and viscous. The carb is subtle, but not flat. The finish is roasty, quite sweet, with a lot of barrel. This is bordering on a barrel bomb, but it gets better as it warms and the cocoa, and roasty, soy malts come through.

Dark dark dark .... I shined a torch to it & it was till dark. Beautiful head, a very delicate brown head. Aroma is brilliant sweets. Robust flavours of malty chocolates.... so much going on.
