We kicked it up a notch with our Bolshevik Bastard Imperial Stout, aging it in Kentucky Bourbon barrels. The rich chocolate, coffee and dark fruit flavours from our Imperial Stout are married together with the vanilla, oak and warming alcohol from bourbon barrels. Together as one, the result is an incredible blend of aroma and taste. Drink it today, or cellar it to enjoy later as it matures.

This imp stout poured a deep black colour with a creamy/foamy, tan coloured head. Scents include glue, bur bon whiskey, chocolate, coffee and dark roasted malt. First sip was smooth and creamy with flavours of smoke, roast, caramel, whiskey and soy sauce? Finish is roasted out the ting yang. Palate is burnt with whiskey overtones.

Bottles. The aroma is very sweet, malty, taste like vanilla, bourbon and coffee. There’s quite a lot of alcohol in the taste which is why I don’t give better numbers.

Bottle at Black night 10/2015. Many thanks to MisoW for sharing. This is the first beer to break my 4.8 points virginity. Paradoxically it is the first one above 4.6 that does not feature any prominent swag element. This is a beer for experienced and demanding drinker, not someone looking for exotic hype. This is how imperial stouts should be barrel aged. Pitch colour. No fancy aroma - only bold adult roasted malts. Stuff for big boys. Not overly complex, but intense and showcasing its strength, the same way that your favourite scotch single malt whisky does. Taste on the other hand is full of greatness. Bourbon notes are prominent, as is alcohol. Never gets to the point of booziness, rather a pleasant warmth letting you know that you are drinking no pilsener. Also woody and lots of roasted flavours, coffee, dark chocolate. Balanced intense sweetness and intense roasted bitterness. Long warming bourbon finish urging you to take in more into your system. Oh boy, is this a great beer... Mr. Data, Mr. Data. Find the nearest replicator.

Taste is sweet, chocolate, cherries, chilli, roasted malt, vanilla, cherry, dill, alcohol is quite well hidden, coconut, wood. Axl, this was the highlight of the box, many, many thanks.

2014 version. Took me about five minutes to dig through the wax on the cap. Kentucky bastard, indeed. Pour is black and thick (just the way I like it!), like a big glass of espresso with a perfect crema (ok this is getting out of hand; also, shut up Tiki). This stuff is pretty much exactly as advertised: a hearty IS with some fairly intense bourbon notes. Chocolate, coffee, dark fruit and mixed berry jam (I feel like I get more bourbon booze than oak and vanilla, but they’re all there, and I’m just nitpicking. It’s boozy but nicely bitter, texture and carbonation are spot on. This is damn good stuff; time to cellar another bottle.

Hop! C’est l’heure d’une gueuze.

750ml bottle. Dark brown body, medium chocolate head with average retention, but beautiful lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate, bourbon, coffee, blackberries jam, herbs, heavy cream. Taste of fudge, dark chocolate, herbs, vanilla, roasted malts, slightly boozy. Heavy and sweet, but nicely balanced.

Inky jet black pour. Medium sized creamy dark tan foamy head. Nose of sweet whisky, wood, alcohol, coffee and alcohol. Definite improvement with 2 year aging. Sweetness softened out, alcohol probably went up. Big mouthfeel with ample carbonation. Mild funk, and just the slightest mushroomy oxidation taint. The bourbon barrel isn’t forward at all. Milk chocolate. Espresso. Cherries and red grape skins. Modest vinous character. Sticky finish, but not nearly as "bad" as the fresh version. Quality craftsmanship.

Aroma of caramel, smoke, and coffee. Opaque near-black colour. Sweet front with mild bourbon and dark malt flavours heavy body with mild carbonation. Really good beer - really nice that the bourbon wasn’t too overpowering.

UPDATED: OCT 10, 2015 Nice thick tan head. Nose is soft bourbon with mild chocolate and a hint of vanilla. Taste features a nice range of tastes -- sweet chocolate, soft bourbon, rich dark fruit, vanilla, molasses, some coffee and a solid touch of woody oak. These are supplemented by a nice creaminess, significant malt and is punched up by a solid effervescence. Improving with age as well.
