3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Bar Hop. Hits the style, biased towards roasty beer with some mineral hops. Interesting. Above average carbonation and body.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
On tap @ Imbibe – this is a dark brown-black ale with a 3 finger puffy off white cap that has a viscous mouth feel. Aroma is very roasty with a healthy pine-citrus hop tone and, yes, there is a minty note created from the hop-yeast ester combo. The flavour has big roasty-toasty malts assault the palate, hops balance with a resinous piney flare – complexity mid palate with some Spearmint, smoke, citrus peel, tobacco, roast walnut – then it goes to a rich viscous roasty-piney finish.
Every once in a while a local crafter produces a unique twist on a style that just lights up your palate – Malevolent is that type of brew. I like the cascade style (so called “black IPA”) and this take on it had everything just click right. Great brew, I hope it becomes available all year round.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Some kind of interesting mintiness in this. Sits in the balance between pine and toasty malt. Pours black with a little lacing and initial small head. Smells very hippy with some smoke as well. Consistency a little on the syrupy side, bit this beer is very well balanced. There is also some muskiness in this. Booze is well hidden. Tap at volos.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, aroma is nice and hoppy. I got some grassy and pineyness. The flavour was nice and hoppy, a good roastiness and a bit of coffee. Lots a flavour, it does pack a punch. Nice offering
