COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We don’t actually wish you harm but our Malvolent Imperial Black IPA will assault your taste buds with reckless abandon. Evil might be represented in its black colour. Alchol is definitely there. But simcoe columbus and centennial hops have been used in a distrubing amount to give the flavour and aroma in this behemoth Imperial Black IPA. You have been warned

Bottle - Pure hop heaven, pine, grapefruit and earthy. Jet black thin brown head. Creamy mouthfeel, nice bitterness that ties on well with booze burn. All hops and some anise. Very nice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap @ Imbibe – this is a dark brown-black ale with a 3 finger puffy off white cap that has a viscous mouth feel. Aroma is very roasty with a healthy pine-citrus hop tone and, yes, there is a minty note created from the hop-yeast ester combo. The flavour has big roasty-toasty malts assault the palate, hops balance with a resinous piney flare – complexity mid palate with some Spearmint, smoke, citrus peel, tobacco, roast walnut – then it goes to a rich viscous roasty-piney finish. Every once in a while a local crafter produces a unique twist on a style that just lights up your palate – Malevolent is that type of brew. I like the cascade style (so called “black IPA”) and this take on it had everything just click right. Great brew, I hope it becomes available all year round.

Bottle, thanks Colin . Black , huge frothy tan head . Wonderful big fruity hop aroma . Taste is a huge fruity hop kick over a surprisingly light foamy body . Alcohol warms your ears but not really present . At this alcohol and ibu, it is I impressive to make this not just am alcoholic hop juice sort of thing . Great job guys .

Bottle; pricey at $12, especially considering I bought directly from the brewery. Pours pitch black with a thin brown head. Aroma: this is Nickel Brook? Huge fruity hops with slight roast notes; wonderful! Taste: again, this is Nickel Brook?? Licorice, molasses, roasty, slight fruit notes, bitter finish. Tasty. Syrupy, full body. I hope Nickel Brook can keep up this quality in their future offerings; well done!

A deep dark IPA with a thick lacing brown head. In aroma, loads of fruity and citrusy floral hops with catty resinous notes, fragrant and delicious. In mouth, a sweet delicious chocomalt with floral resinous hops, grapefruit, mentol, lingering and smooth.

Missed the oportunity to try this in Toronto however got it on tap at Brothers in Ottawa and happy I did. Black with a nice brown head. Resiny hops, some grapefruit, smooth and balanced bitterness. Full body, moderate carbonation, qutie bitter but not overwhelming and surprisingly well balanced with a great finish that makes you want more. Alcohol is well hidden and the flavour packs a powerful punch. I don’t always agree with Luc’s ratings but guess we see eye to eye on this one.

2013-04-19. Black body with a huge tan head. 4+ Pleasant green leafy hop aroma. Dusty cocoa undertones. 7++ Flavour is similar, nuanced layers of green leafy hops and soft roasty dark malt. Whispers of cocoa in the background. 7++ very smooth average plus bodied palate. 4+ Lovely, much better and more complex than expected. Probably the best beer they have done so far imho. Bottle from the brewery

Draught at Bar Hop. Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with a small lasting frothy light-brown head. Some lacing on the glass. Nice aroma with lots of leafy hops, some fruit and toasted dark malt -- it gets quite catty and hempy as it warms, in a good way. Flavour is also quite hoppy along with roasted malt, a bit of coffee, light lactic notes, cocoa and an average bitter finish. Medium bodied, slightly creamy mouthfeel. Really good, a Black IPA done right.

750ml bottle, 9.5% a/v Straight from the brewshop courtesy of my brother. Pours jet black with a gorgeous dense brown head. Aroma is a punch in the face of hops, citrusy, slightly piney, and a very slight hint of roasted malt. The taste is also heavily skewed towards the hoppy spectrum with a massive assault on the tongue of the same citrus and pine hops in the aroma. You have to like hops to like this beer, and thankfully, I LOVE hops. The aftertaste is nice and rich malt to balance it out, the beer feels almost creamy in the mouth, and leaves you wanting more.
