Basic porter. I could not pick up the maple taste and actually found it a little bitter.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Au son, un pétillement sans égale, avec une détonation à l’odeur de sirop d’érable et de grain rotie. En bouche, très pétillante, avec un goût de grain de café rotie, et chocolat noir, avec un mini soupçon d’érable.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Originally rated March 2013. 750ml bottle with a wax-sealed cap. Pours a dark brown colour with a frothy mocha cap that has great retention and foamy thin lace. Coffee aroma start, with eventually caramel and roasted malts, dark fruit notes and mild yeast. The maple really appears in the taste, not to add too much sweetness, but well-balanced with the hop bitterness in the finish. Mild sugars, roasted malt and a tad of dark fruits. A very nice, easy-drinking porter, with hints of maple syrup.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
750 ml bottle from the LCBO.
Appearance: Pours black with almost a finger of tan head. Short retention with little lacing.
Toasted malt, grain, cereal, bit of liqueur.
Dark toasted malt, black coffee, cola, hint of dark chocolate.
Average viscosity with lighter carbonation.
Overall: A nice Porter with tons of malt. I didn’t get any maple, but this was still a really nice Porter.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
750ml bottle. Clear brown body, cola like head, no retention at all. Effervescent. Aroma of roasted malts, cough syrup, a touch of coffee, vanilla. Taste of well-done toast, coffee, mineral water, just a hint of maple. Disappointing.

Nickelbrook has redeemed itself from the terror that was the bolshevik bastard porter. Nice and smooth with a nice pour n great nose. Smooth to drink n doesnt linger too long on the palate. Good for a session porter

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a deep caramel/black with a one finger, khaki head. Aroma has sweeter notes of caramel, dark chocolate, and a touch of maple syrup. Taste is balanced. Caramel, dark chocolate, roasted malts, and a touch of smoky maple. Medium-full body with a medium carbonation. clean in the mouth with a slightly dry finish. Overall pretty tasty. Just a hint of maple mixed with a nice porter.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft - Sweet sugars and roast, not quite maple. Jet black with a rich brown head. Dark roast, syrupy sweetness with a long syrupy finish. Pretty average.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: JUL 5, 2015 Pours muddy dark brown with a nice mocha head, at least at first. The retention is weak and it bubbles away in less than a minute
Aromas are of chocolate, coffee, burnt malts, and occasionally I actually catch a whiff of a Coffee Crisp chocolate bar. Maybe the slightest hint of maple. Maybe.
Mouthfeel is medium, leaning toward creamy, but with some surprising crispness as well which was a little unexpected.
Taste wise this one delivers the anticipated chocolatey malts, and hints of coffee, but where is the maple?
Overall this is a drinkable Porter, but compared to other maple beers I’ve had, especially some from Quebec and the Flying Monkeys, this one is a maple let down and that will hurt it’s score.
