2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle thanks to Matt7215. Pours a dark brown with small dark tan head. Aroma of roasted malt and a bit of earthy bitterness. Flavor matches well, but I just don’t get much maple syrup. Not my cup of tea.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
750ml bottle from the LCBO. Pours a deep reddish black with a big pillowy khaki head that fades slowly leaving nice lace. Nose is toffee, coffee and chocolate with notes of vanilla and maple. Nice sweet start with some nuts and coffee with vanilla and a definite maple note balancing a slight bitterness.. Creamy slightly thin mouth with a lingering smoky finish.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
A 750ml bottle (with its fancy new graphics) bought from my local LCBO. A well done porter. Great rich smell of toasted malts, brown sugar and maple. Nice full fluffy tan head that slowly breaks down with lacing over a nearly opaque espresso-brown beer. The taste right up front with toasted malts, a touch of bitterness there, but the is a calm sweetness there to balance it out. Maple is mostly lost to me in the beer itself. A little vanilla, floating around there as well. While porters and stouts are really my thing, this one is well done, and worth a try.

Basic porter. I could not pick up the maple taste and actually found it a little bitter.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Barley Brothers, Winnipeg. Dark pour with a nice head. Roasty, malty aroma, with a little maple. Normally I'm a little skeptical toward porters and anything with maple, but I was pleasantly surprised. Flavour is nice and rich, coffee and chocolate with subtle maple and a touch of smokiness.

Rating #792 - Beer #1 of the Craft BeerAdvent Calendar - Dec 1, 2013.This porter was flat out delicious. Great start to the calendar and a great breakfast beer. Weak bubbly off-white head out of a espresso-mahogany pour. Not shy about the maple on the nose. Palate has lots of good roast malt notes, lasting bitterness, and a tinge of maple syrup sweetness. Good porter.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Good enough beer but I wish they wouldn’t have called it a maple Porter... The maple is no where to be found. Having said that there are some nice roasty malt and coffee notes.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
This beer poured as a nice black beer with brown tones. The head was huge and a) would not go away and b) just kept coming no matter how slowly I poured it. This really took away from the review of the beer because I could not get very good smell tests and I had to wait awhile or end up drinking foam (I couldn’t wait so I got a mouthful of foam).
When I could smell the beer, it had a nice sweet tang to it. It wasn’t really a maple syrup taste, but I am assuming that the maple brought the sweetness with it. It had molasses and a hint of chocolate to it which is what I expected from the Porter.
The taste was very nice - the dark malts were overshadowed by the sweetness and there was a taste of raisin that was not in the smell. Disappointingly, there was not a strong maple syrup taste to it which I was hoping for. The mouthfeel was nice other than when the foam got in the way.

OOOOHHHH it’s that time of year again!!!! Beer Advent Calendar time! So this is a good start for a ticker like me-- a dark wintery brew that I have not yet rated and it has MAPLE SYRUP! Oh-oh-- the pour is dampening my enthusiasm: I need to pause about seven times because this beer is so gassy. Insanely carbonated. Once it settles down I can get a whiff of dark malts with woody undertones and an equally sweet/sour character. The palate is actually under-carbonated now that I de-gassed this creature. Flavours that are dominated by roast malt with a hint of sweetness, but not truly maple in flavour. The finish is woody, pithy dryness with a strange tangy quality that isn’t exactly sour but leans that way. Not foul, but not awesome either. Mostly a little strange.
