3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 blankboy (5180) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 31, 2013
Draught at DeSotos. Pours a deep orange-amber with an average size lasting frothy tan head. Nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of bready malt, lots of fruit, caramel, light hops and grain. Malty, fruity flavour with a light bitter finish. Average to medium bodied. Pretty good, not a favourite style but overall I liked it.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 WheatKing (744) - Oak Bay, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 25, 2012
I got this on draft in some bar in Hamilton... I just saw "Nickel Brook Red" and for some reason I thought I was ordering a Red Ale. After the shock of the initial sip, though, I was pleasantly surprised. For its style it’s good. Well balanced, tastes like Autumn, looks crispy. I could picture drinking this in Bavaria.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 yrstruly (197) - Guelph, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 20, 2012
Tap at Baker St Station. Malt and caramel aroma with some dried stone fruit. This was medium bodied, nicely carbonated, more of that caramel, a bit of acidity. Slight bitter, long lasting finish. This was really good.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 kevinsenn (583) - Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 29, 2011
Bottle from brewery. Suprisingly big malty flavour, with some maple notes, and a hoppy finish. A little on the sweet side for me, but nails the style fairly well. Wouldn’t be opposed to having this one again.

341ml bottle from the brewery. pours deep orangish red with a lasting off white head. great bready malty nose. really satisfying malt lager. hops bitter the finish to balance. great marzen. Earlier Rating: 12/7/2009 Total Score: 3.8 this one was a real nice seasonal by nickel brook. deep maroon colour with an off white head. the malt profile dominated the aroma and flavour but the was enough hopping to make the finish just slightly bitter. only 2 batches were made in its first year so samples may be hard to come by. one of the better beers from this brewery.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 pootzboy (1483) - Hawgville, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 15, 2011
Just finished trying samples of this newly redone Fest Marzen at the brewery and took a few packs home to sip on. Great color to this lager – a clear reddish orange. 1 finger off white cap. Decent aroma….all the elements of a proper Marzen are there – bready, toasty earthy noble hops very light sweetness. Medium body, rocky mouth feel, malty-toasty dry character. Nice chew of Munich amber malts in front big breadiness with a balancing earthy-woody hop discernment. Clean dry finish with some lingering breadiness. A very decent local Marzen in the traditional Bavarian style. The brewer has improved this Marzen with a new process and recipe. Earlier Rating: 11/23/2009 Total Score: 3.7 Sampled second batch from the bright tank at the brewery:
A turbid copper-amber beer with a smallish off white cap.
Aromas of toasty grains, noble woodiness and a pungent earthy tone.
Seemed rather 2 dimensional with toasty bread dough tastes balanced with beechwood twiggy noble hop notes and a rich earthy mustiness... dries up in the finish. Sweetness totally in tow with hop balance. I think this sample was not conditioned enough to have a fully developed finished character so I will re-rate when I pick up a few cases of this batch in a couple weeks. According to the grain and hop bill this Marzen holds promise.
It seemed right on style profile but a tad undeveloped
................................... Update rating 05/15/10 .......
Beautiful orange-red semi filtered Marzen gives a 3 finger tawny cap that laces well. Toasty grains and herbal-woody noble aroma. Big toasty bready front side is tamed by the leafy hops mid palate, long rich finish is toasty-bready-leafy with a light sweetness that vanishes in the very end where a citrusy bite hits the palate.
