May 2, 2012 - on cask at Volo (and a few times since at Bar Hop). Slightly hazy amber-tinged bright refractive gold with a decent lasting frothy/rocky off-white lasting head. Aroma - cereal grain, citrus zest, a hint of tropical fruit ... goodness that’s wonderful, no alcohol at all. Taste - follows - light body, simply waves of grassy/catty hop bitterness, the perfect cereal malt body to match, soft and airy on the palate (just perfect cask mouthfeel), some sweetness but not bad - floral and pineapple/mango character - great stuff! finishes medium-quick, pungent lightly coating aftertaste, really left me wanting more. A real "drink buckets of it" beer - "Nickel Brook - I think you have finally arrived!" from my voice notes.

Cask pint at Rhino during Nickel Brook’s event in the Cask 5 series. Nice orangey-amber with a slight haze and a thin white head. Punchy aroma of those C-hops with mild supporting malt. Flavour is all about the hops as well, but it’s not over the top - they’re more fresh and almost fruity rather than tongue-blisteringly bitter. Long, luscious finish. Fantastic!

6 pack from the brewery. Initially, I had sampled a bottle of this after drinking a DIPA, so I didn’t get much from it. Now that I had a fresh palate and fresh product, I was ready to properly review this beer. Sparkling somewhat darkish gold liquid is topped with a billowing white cap. It leaves plenty of lace on the glass. Nose is fresh hops of a floral and spicy persuasion, and suggests grass, lychee and some citrus. Fairly bitter with a fruity sweetness. Very well balanced. Medium light bodied, creamy, with a spicy bitter finish. Liquid gold from Mr. Romano.

On cask at C’est What. Pours a nice orange-y copper with a small bubbly head. Aroma is nice and hoppy, sharp but without being too much. Mild malt background character. Flavour is extremely smooth, with a solid malt back bone but behind a very good hop presence both in flavour and bitterness. The bitterness isn’t so much that I can’t appreciate the hop flavours. Had to intentionally not drink my pint too quickly so I could properly evaluate and enjoy this. A bit cold considering it’s ’cask’, but I can let it slide with a solid beer like this. It’s amazing to me that these days Nickel Brook is actually producing top-notch stuff.

On tap at Gig’s: Medium gold color, lightly hazed, nice puffy white cap laces the glass.. Great nose to this - big frutiness over fresh cereals, light grassiness. Medium-light body, slick mouth feel. Flavor follows aroma with succulent fruity esters and citrus over bready malts in front, moderate bittering, finish is clean lightly bitter. A great summer pale with some PacNW character and great quenching drinkability. You got a winner here John.

On tap at Bar Hop. Great C-hop aroma, loads of citrus, but there is still a solid bready maltiness. Good carb, solod mouthfeel. Great citrusy finish. Just an all around great session pale ale, not too hoppy, but you get loads of great hop flavor, could drink it all night!

From bottle - pours lighter gold with decent white head. Aroma is very fresh and strong with citrus hops. Taste is very smooth and brings out the citrus notes well. A light bitterness lingers. Incredible and probably the best beer that Nickel Brook has ever put out.

341 ml bottle @ Hintonburg Public House Ottawa. Pours a clear gold with a large off-white head. Aroma is pine and citrus hops with pine somewhat more dominant. Taste is piny resin and hoppy bitterness but not overpowering. Well balanced, effervescent with a medium bitter, astringent finish. Very nice APA. Note bottle was unfiltered.

UPDATED: FEB 17, 2013 Naughtiest on Cask, at The Only. Pale stone fruit and lemon aromas. Peachy color and half cloudy look, small of white head. Ale fruit and hops create dimensional peachy-bitter flavor with sweet lemon and long moderate bitterness. - re rate - liking the flavor and overall a point more for the peachiness.
