COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We kicked it up a notch with our Bolshevik Bastard Imperial Stout, aging it in Kentucky Bourbon barrels. The rich chocolate, coffee and dark fruit flavours from our Imperial Stout are married together with the vanilla, oak and warming alcohol from bourbon barrels. Together as one, the result is an incredible blend of aroma and taste. Drink it today, or cellar it to enjoy later as it matures.

On tap @ the Bent Elbow - Served in a tulip snifter...deep dark roily black with a mocha colored cap. Aromas are pungent...dark fruit, coffee, cocoa, grape skin, vanilla. Rich viscous texture. Dark roast coffee/cocoa over figs vanilla and spicy hopping, some booze, long lush finish where the oak becomes detectable. Great barrel aged stout. Fine offering."

Bottle from Brewery. Pours opaque black, with a thin brown head. Aroma of port, brandy, and red wine. Taste is roasty up front, then sweet with grapes and dried fruits, followed by a moderately bitter aftertaste. Relatively smooth drinking for an Imperial Stout.

On tap at Pepperwood beerfest. Great, smooth to drink. Pours dark with slight aroma. Tastes sweet from the bourbon with a slight bitterness from the chocolate and coffee.

(on cask at BarHop, Toronto, Feb 19 2013) Poured clear, very dark brown with a small, fine dark tan head. Aroma toasty oak, bourbon, dark malt - very barrel forward. Flavour again leads toasty oak barrel and bourbon with toffee sweetness from the malt, some chocolate, vanilla, again heavy on the barrel and whisky character. Finishes with slight sweetness and little bitterness from roast. Carbonation very light even for a cask, mouthfeel is quite light for the style. Booze comes through more as the beer breathes despite the room-temp pour. The lack of big roast in the malts and the lighter mouthfeel are shared with the Pinot Noir version but this barrel adds more toastiness. Quite good bourbon stout, but could use a bit more oomph.

On tap. Jet black. Tan head. Aroma really carries the bourbon. Similar to the bolshevik bastard, dark chocolate, coffee, dark fruit. Smooth and rich. Complex and nicely balanced. Slight sweetness with a bourbon bitter finish. Really enjoyed.

Fairly dark brown with cognac highlights, barely no head. Aroma toffee apple and bourbon play into flavor which has rounded bourbon oak and no sharp or ugly green tannins. Very delish, with just the right boozy caramel-corn bourbon overtones.

On tap at Barhop. Pours a dark opaque black with a moderate amount of tan head. Smell is lots of vanilla, a bit of roastiness, really lots of bourbon. Palate is medium bodied with not a whole lot of carbonation. Taste is sweet at first, then goes to a nice bitter roastiness before basically tasting like bourbon. This entire beer tastes and smells a lot like bourbon and goes down really smooth. Love it!

Draught at Bar Hop. Pours a very dark brown with a small lasting creamy light-brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, notes of bourbon and vanilla, alcohol, chocolate, Sweet-ish flavour of roasted malt, light bourbon, some dark fruit, coffee and alcohol. Average bodied. Pretty good, a little more bourbon then I prefer but it’s a good beer nonetheless. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
