COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We kicked it up a notch with our Bolshevik Bastard Imperial Stout, aging it in Kentucky Bourbon barrels. The rich chocolate, coffee and dark fruit flavours from our Imperial Stout are married together with the vanilla, oak and warming alcohol from bourbon barrels. Together as one, the result is an incredible blend of aroma and taste. Drink it today, or cellar it to enjoy later as it matures.

Carbonatation moyenne-faible, corps moyen-dense.

750 ml bottle into snifter, 2015 vintage bottling. Pours dense pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense dark tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, fudge, coconut, bourbon, toasted oak, and molasses; with lighter notes of smoke, char, licorice, and dark fruit; with roast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and bourbon barrel notes; with great strength. Light booziness appears as it warms. Taste of huge milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, fudge, coconut, bourbon, toasted oak, and molasses; with lighter notes of smoke, char, licorice, and dark fruit; with roast/oak earthiness. Light herbal/roast bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, fudge, coconut, bourbon, toasted oak, molasses, and roast/oak earthiness on the finis hfor a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and bourbon barrel flavors; with great roasted bitter/sweet and oak spiciness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light dryness for roast bitterness and bourbon/oak spice as well. light carbonation and full body; with a very smooth, crea,y/silky, and lightly slick/chalky moutthfeel that is awesome. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warmth lingering after the finish, with minimal booziness. Overall this is an incredible barrel aged Russian imperial stout! All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and bourbon barrel flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the huge ABV. A highly enjoyable offering all around.

Pours dark milky brown with a tan head. Has a good strong bourbon aroma. A full bodied beer with tastes of oak bourbon, coffee, dark fruits and a slight bitter dark chocolate. A great beer to share with friends.

Enjoyed this one at Doug’s house on March 30 as part of an IPA tasting that spiraled out. 750 mL waxed bottle. I like how this one tells you how to open a waxed bottle. How nice. The pour is a lighter black with a bit creamy off white head that recedes fairly quickly. There is a big bourbon on the nose. There is also a ton of wet barrel. There is a little dark roasted malt and some light chocolate influences. None of the vanilla I was hoping for, and aside from the wet wood, you wouldn’t know it was barrel aged. The flavors are just off. There is a strong bourbon and wet woodiness. The malts almost disappear, and just a bitterness hangs around. The mouth feel is incredibly thin. There is a sharper carbonation and a lingeringly wet wood finish. I just don’t care for this at all. Ugh.

Pours a black color with a brown head. Aroma is of toasted malts, coffee, and bourbon oak. Flavor is mostly the bourbon oak with some roasted malts and coffee. A hint of warming on the finish.

Bottle, shared at game night by Shea-- thanks! Viscous near black, thick light brown head. Big bourbon and barrel character play nicely with the hearty roast and bitter chocolate of the base beer. Creamy mouthfeel, full bodied but not boozy or harsh. Another great version of Bastard.

I smell bourbon and lots of it. Also dark chocolate, black coffee and a bit of vanilla. Coffee and bourbon are the strongest flavours of the beer and there’s some dark fruit in here as well, along with smoky malts. Impressive beer and the bourbon-boozy finish is a reminder of the 12 per cent alcohol. Tread carefully.
