COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We kicked it up a notch with our Bolshevik Bastard Imperial Stout, aging it in Kentucky Bourbon barrels. The rich chocolate, coffee and dark fruit flavours from our Imperial Stout are married together with the vanilla, oak and warming alcohol from bourbon barrels. Together as one, the result is an incredible blend of aroma and taste. Drink it today, or cellar it to enjoy later as it matures.

2013-01-06. Black body with a decent tan head that fades. 3+ Moderate aroma of bourbon, mild dark malt and a very light tang to it. 7+ Flavour is similar, moderate bourbon, lightly fruity dark malt base, very lightly tangy under current, light bitterness. Average plus bodied palate with soft carbonation is bit light for the style. Decent but the bourbon and the base don’t quite come together for me. On tap at Brew Market, Brick Works, Toronto

On cask at Volo. Quite boozy, roasted malts and slight funk. Bitter chocolate and bourbon. Worth tasting again - at the Brewer’s Backyard - maybe a bit fresher.

On cask at Volo. Dark and below middling mouthfeel. Chocolate, roast, and barreling. Glad it wasn’t substantive bourbon. Might be livelier on tap, less watery in the bottle.

This is very watery. Out of the four imperial stouts I had today, this one seems the weakest. Pours black with fizzy foam. Consistency is medium. It almost tastes just like a regular stout. The booze is very hidden. Notes of coffee and nuts. Not a huge body - aftertaste is short. On cask at volos.

Bottle, from the brewery, it has a nice black tan head and a thick black pour, the aroma is roasty and a light bourbon, I get a lot of vanilla out it, it has a light bourbon finish, there wasnt much roast in the flavour it had lots of vanilia, it was a nice offering

750 ml bottle, 10% a/v. Christmas gift from my brother who frequents the brewery. Pours a very thick black with a deep brown head. Looks like a meal in a glass! Aroma is complex and interesting, chocolate and coffee from the beer but also a notable scent of bourbon from the barrels it has been aged in. The taste is undeniably powerful and fantastically complex. Starting with espresso and bourbon, with chocolate, roasted nuts and a bit of stone fruit. Every sip brings a new flavor, and its just so well balanced. The palate is remarkably full, and delicious. Very glad my brother got me this brew, perfect for a cold winter night!

Tap at Volo. Deep black pour with a big creamy tan head. The nose has a soft sweet vanilla note along with some bourbon/caramel and a little bit of cocoa. The chocolate and coffee are accentuated much more in this version than in the wine barrel version which seems to focus on fruit and peppery flavour more. Smooth palate and quite warming but is very well integrated. The nose has more of a herbal component but the beer itself is quite malt accented. Awesome.
