We kicked it up a notch with our Bolshevik Bastard Imperial Stout, aging it in Kentucky Bourbon barrels. The rich chocolate, coffee and dark fruit flavours from our Imperial Stout are married together with the vanilla, oak and warming alcohol from bourbon barrels. Together as one, the result is an incredible blend of aroma and taste. Drink it today, or cellar it to enjoy later as it matures.

Bottle from an LCBO in Hamilton. Very dark. Aroma is rich, with lots of molasses, bourbon/vanilla, a dash if burnt sugar, soft finish that has just a touch of alcohol. Itís a very likeable beer, Iíll say that.

Quite possibly one of the darkest beers Iíve had in a while. Jet black, medium dark mocha head. The aroma is a slap in the face of spicy bourbon, and earthy, sweet wood, with subtle vanilla and charred brown sugar. As it warms some of the roasty malts come through. There are hard to find amongst the barrel flavours, but they are there. The body is thick, and viscous. The carb is subtle, but not flat. The finish is roasty, quite sweet, with a lot of barrel. This is bordering on a barrel bomb, but it gets better as it warms and the cocoa, and roasty, soy malts come through.

Bottle - 750ml. Pours an opaque black body with low carbonation and an average, brown foamy head. Fantastic, rich, robust malty/hoppy aroma with bourbon, canilla, chocolate, and oaky hints. Alcohol is not agressive at all. Its very well balanced, complex malty/hoppy taste carries bourbon, oaky, chocolate, roasty, licorice, and plummy notes. Texture is soft and bittersweet finish is long, strong, and warming. A gem.

750 mL bottle. 2013 vintage. Pours black with a one finger cap of khaki head. Aromas of cocoa, coffee, dark dried figs and prunes, rich bourbon, vanilla, oak and what reminds me of oloroso sherry. Moderately sweet and malty, I imagine the IBUís and roast have faded and mellowed with age, a mild hit of alcohol. Full bodied with mild carbonation

Bottle - Bourbon, vanilla and caramel notes. Jet black with a nice brown head. Bourbon, dark roast, vanilla, coconut and caramel. Well balanced, lots of bourbon flavours but little booze or heat. Nicely done.

750 ml bottle from the LCBO. Appearance: Pours a dense black with half a finger of head. Aroma: Firewood, bourbon, spice, molasses, vanilla, flint\gun powder. Flavours: Bourbon, molasses, oak, tobacco, hint of vanilla. Mouthfeel: Smooth, medium viscosity with moderate carbonation. Overall: A very good and unusual stout. The bourbon and molasses aroma are strong along with this flint aroma that Iíve gotten on South African Pinotage but never before in a beer. Just the aromas make this one worth getting. Nice and complex with lots of layers of aroma and flavour. Well balanced overall and the alcohol isnít overly noticeable.

Pours pitch black, with a huge mahogany head. Aroma includes notes of coffee, dark chocolate, bourbon, dark fruits, and sweet malts. Tasting notes include rich chocolate, espresso, bourbon, burnt malts, sweet dried fruits, and vanilla. Not bad, very much an indulgent! Not as complex as some other impís, but still awesome non the less!
