COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We kicked it up a notch with our Bolshevik Bastard Imperial Stout, aging it in Kentucky Bourbon barrels. The rich chocolate, coffee and dark fruit flavours from our Imperial Stout are married together with the vanilla, oak and warming alcohol from bourbon barrels. Together as one, the result is an incredible blend of aroma and taste. Drink it today, or cellar it to enjoy later as it matures.

750ml bottle in a teku. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of bourbon, dark chocolate, roasted malts, light coffee, oak and vanilla, and some hints of dark fruits. Flavor the same. Smooth texture. A solid beer, but could be more balanced and less sweet.

750mL bottle, from MartinT, drunk 3/29/14
Really impressive pour. Clear, obviously filtered (bottom of bottle confirmed), but yet the tan head is large and quite well-retained.
The nose is full of bourbon and sweet chocolate, though there is a good dose of vanilla and dark fruits; boysenberry being very, very prominent. Not too aggressive on the bourbon thankfully, it seems they were testing it weekly and really pulled it out at the peek time, as itís bourbony, but still allows the beer to do most of the work. Very strong aroma, and no actual ethanol sharpness, but, unfortunately, lots of glue-like aroma. Would imagine this could be alleviated if it werent filtered, but then, Iím pretty biased against filtration.
The flavor is shockingly smooth, soft, lightly sweet and actually comforting on the palate. Silky chocolate, vanilla, mild roast and oaky, buttery, lightly grainy bourbon notes abound. Very, very well-attenuated; probably the best thing about the beer. A little bit more glue in the flavor, but all-in-all, this is probably one of the better filtered beers Iíve ever had. Incredibly drinkable for its size and for an artificially carbonated beer, I didnt find the carbonation loose or prickly. Very, very impressive. But for the glue, this would be a mid 4ís for me.

Pours a motor oil black with a short lived brown soapy cap. The aroma is butter, green apple, chocolate, toffee, burnt sugar, bourbon, vanilla, alcohol. Flavour is a note for note reflection of the aroma. Mouthfeel is a little thin, and the green apple and butter notes are a little distracting, other then that. Its pretty good!

750mL bottle, sent from ratyger (thanks a lot, Sam), pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out bourbon barrels, vanilla, and cocoa. Flavour is very much the same, bringing out bourbon barrels, vanilla, roasted and cocoa powder. Wonderful balance with all the aforementioned qualities. Excellent stuff.

Looks like a copper topped dark stout, smells like roasted brown sugar, and tastes like your thoroughbred just won the derby.

pours very dark brown, red tint, with a minimal light beige head, some lacing. red fruitiness - blackberries and cherries - fruity notes upfront that are also found in bolshevik bastard, roasty and nutty malts, woodsy bourbon vanilla - never overwhelming, very peppery and spicy - aniseed, bitter coffee, some chocolate. moderate to low carbonation, light to medium body - a bit thin, slightly harsh bitter coffee-lightly piney finish. slightly improved version of an average impy.

Bottle bought at my local LCBO. Yay Nickel Brook! Been waiting for you to nail one. And they did with Kentucky Bastard. Pour with a thin but very dark brown head, dark opaque coffee brown. Aromas of cherry, vanilla and the bourbon. Taste rich and full with cherries, coffee, bourbon, roasty malts. Moderate-low carbonation making a nice creamy mouth-feel. Excellent beer. Thanks!

UPDATED: JAN 28, 2014 Bottle. Potent oaky and bourbon butterscotch aroma that is somewhat vinous and with stone fruit accents. Opaque black under a thin, lacy, ruddy brown sheet. Smooth bourbon flavour in front of mocha with black cherry and smoky notes. Medium body, medium carbonation, faintly lingering bitterness.

Jet black with just a little small/slow carbination seen at bottom when close to face. Brown 3 finger chocolate shake like head, fades to one and laceís alot. Smell from bottle quickly was some chocolate and spice then it went to a booze smell. From glass booze, spice, wood stuff like that. When I drink it, taking it in seems like chocolate but once I swallow itís all this hardcore booze taste(nothing like bourbon), at times a little spice and woody barrel taste and lightly in the back round vanilla ice cream milk shake like, but basiclly all this boozy taste and nothing like bourbon. Leaves warmth because few mins ago was last sip and feel hot alot writing this. Medium bodied but on heavy medium side 70 IBUíS. Taste nothing like bourbon and I like this but the original version of this stuff is way way way better. One of my favs the yr I tryed it. cheerís.

750ml bottle from the LCBO. Pours a very dark reddish black with a two finger dark brown head. Nose is chocolate and coffee with a big helping of bourbon. Hints of vanilla and wood and dark fruits. Taste is dominated by the bourbon which relegates the other notes to the background. Sweet start and very dry finish. Mouth is slick and a bit watery with soft carbonation. Nice but could use some more balance.
