COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We kicked it up a notch with our Bolshevik Bastard Imperial Stout, aging it in Kentucky Bourbon barrels. The rich chocolate, coffee and dark fruit flavours from our Imperial Stout are married together with the vanilla, oak and warming alcohol from bourbon barrels. Together as one, the result is an incredible blend of aroma and taste. Drink it today, or cellar it to enjoy later as it matures.

750 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a near-black dark brown with small beige head. Lots of barrel influence apparent with oak, bourbon, anise and some roastiness. Flavour is also barrel-dominated with lots of wood and bourbon, modest roastiness, toffee and anise. Rich, full body. Alcohol pretty subtle. Fairly unique and pleasant.

750 mL wax dipped bottle. So bloody annoying. Surprisingly mild aroma. A lot of notes from the barrel in the flavour, especially oak. Certainly not complex: oak, vanilla, roast at the end. Some booze. Not bad, if you’re a fan of the barrel.

This imp stout poured a deep black colour with a creamy/foamy, tan coloured head. Scents include glue, bur bon whiskey, chocolate, coffee and dark roasted malt. First sip was smooth and creamy with flavours of smoke, roast, caramel, whiskey and soy sauce? Finish is roasted out the ting yang. Palate is burnt with whiskey overtones.

Black pour with a sizeable head. Aroma of scotch whisky and coffee grounds. Tastes more single malt scotch than bourbon. Spent coffee grounds, a bit of vanilla lingering, dark chocolate and a bit of sour cherry. Lighter body for a stout which i found kind of offputting.

2013 bottle. Pours an opaque, huge foamy brown head that gradually dies down, leaving sticky sheets of lace. Nose sweet roasted malt, vanilla and delicious bourbon. Tastes surprisingly light in body, an alcohol bite, touch of bitterness and man oh man bourbon. Good stuff. Love what these guys ate putting out lately.

Wax dipped 750 ml bottle pours death metal black with a very understated brown sugar toned cap. The price tag on this raises expectations -- it better be a lot better than my go to imperial which I can get for 2/3rd of the price. Flavour is full. Oh yeah, check out how that rich toffee swirls and chewy figs with bourbon barrel aging. One of the better barrel aged brews I’ve had in awhile. As a serious bourbon drinker, I’d really love to know who they source their barrels from. A really good brew to enjoy as the snow falls outside my window on the first snowstorm of the year.
