We kicked it up a notch with our Bolshevik Bastard Imperial Stout, aging it in Kentucky Bourbon barrels. The rich chocolate, coffee and dark fruit flavours from our Imperial Stout are married together with the vanilla, oak and warming alcohol from bourbon barrels. Together as one, the result is an incredible blend of aroma and taste. Drink it today, or cellar it to enjoy later as it matures.

Looks like a copper topped dark stout, smells like roasted brown sugar, and tastes like your thoroughbred just won the derby.

Bottle bought at my local LCBO. Yay Nickel Brook! Been waiting for you to nail one. And they did with Kentucky Bastard. Pour with a thin but very dark brown head, dark opaque coffee brown. Aromas of cherry, vanilla and the bourbon. Taste rich and full with cherries, coffee, bourbon, roasty malts. Moderate-low carbonation making a nice creamy mouth-feel. Excellent beer. Thanks!

750 ml bottle, 10% a/v. Christmas gift from my brother who frequents the brewery. Pours a very thick black with a deep brown head. Looks like a meal in a glass! Aroma is complex and interesting, chocolate and coffee from the beer but also a notable scent of bourbon from the barrels it has been aged in. The taste is undeniably powerful and fantastically complex. Starting with espresso and bourbon, with chocolate, roasted nuts and a bit of stone fruit. Every sip brings a new flavor, and its just so well balanced. The palate is remarkably full, and delicious. Very glad my brother got me this brew, perfect for a cold winter night!

Tap at Volo. Deep black pour with a big creamy tan head. The nose has a soft sweet vanilla note along with some bourbon/caramel and a little bit of cocoa. The chocolate and coffee are accentuated much more in this version than in the wine barrel version which seems to focus on fruit and peppery flavour more. Smooth palate and quite warming but is very well integrated. The nose has more of a herbal component but the beer itself is quite malt accented. Awesome.

On tap at Barhop. Pours a dark opaque black with a moderate amount of tan head. Smell is lots of vanilla, a bit of roastiness, really lots of bourbon. Palate is medium bodied with not a whole lot of carbonation. Taste is sweet at first, then goes to a nice bitter roastiness before basically tasting like bourbon. This entire beer tastes and smells a lot like bourbon and goes down really smooth. Love it!

Fairly dark brown with cognac highlights, barely no head. Aroma toffee apple and bourbon play into flavor which has rounded bourbon oak and no sharp or ugly green tannins. Very delish, with just the right boozy caramel-corn bourbon overtones.

On tap @ the Bent Elbow - Served in a tulip snifter...deep dark roily black with a mocha colored cap. Aromas are pungent...dark fruit, coffee, cocoa, grape skin, vanilla. Rich viscous texture. Dark roast coffee/cocoa over figs vanilla and spicy hopping, some booze, long lush finish where the oak becomes detectable. Great barrel aged stout. Fine offering."

750ml bottle. Jet black colour with a small head but one that is brownish in colour. Huge aroma of dark fruit and whiskey esters. As it opens up there is plenty of espresso and chocolate but also sports a hint of molasses. On the palate it is rich, lengthy and complex. It shows a bitter roasted finish with some whiskey heat and a creamy texture. Very good stuff.

Very ncie aroma, smell the barrel quite a b it. Some nice vanilla, bourbon, milk chocolateand dark malt in the aroma. Dark black viscous pour, with long lasting fizzing mocha head. Tons of bourbon character comes through at first, vanilla, smoke, finishing with some milk and dark chocolate and a bit of alcohol bite. Sweet chocolately aftertaste. Quite delicious, but seems like it could use some time in the cellar to cool down a bit. Medium to medium-heavy bodied, average carbonation. Very good.
