We kicked it up a notch with our Bolshevik Bastard Imperial Stout, aging it in Kentucky Bourbon barrels. The rich chocolate, coffee and dark fruit flavours from our Imperial Stout are married together with the vanilla, oak and warming alcohol from bourbon barrels. Together as one, the result is an incredible blend of aroma and taste. Drink it today, or cellar it to enjoy later as it matures.

Bottle at Black night 10/2015. Many thanks to MisoW for sharing. This is the first beer to break my 4.8 points virginity. Paradoxically it is the first one above 4.6 that does not feature any prominent swag element. This is a beer for experienced and demanding drinker, not someone looking for exotic hype. This is how imperial stouts should be barrel aged. Pitch colour. No fancy aroma - only bold adult roasted malts. Stuff for big boys. Not overly complex, but intense and showcasing its strength, the same way that your favourite scotch single malt whisky does. Taste on the other hand is full of greatness. Bourbon notes are prominent, as is alcohol. Never gets to the point of booziness, rather a pleasant warmth letting you know that you are drinking no pilsener. Also woody and lots of roasted flavours, coffee, dark chocolate. Balanced intense sweetness and intense roasted bitterness. Long warming bourbon finish urging you to take in more into your system. Oh boy, is this a great beer... Mr. Data, Mr. Data. Find the nearest replicator.

Looks like a copper topped dark stout, smells like roasted brown sugar, and tastes like your thoroughbred just won the derby.

750 ml bottle from the LCBO. Appearance: Pours a dense black with half a finger of head. Aroma: Firewood, bourbon, spice, molasses, vanilla, flint\gun powder. Flavours: Bourbon, molasses, oak, tobacco, hint of vanilla. Mouthfeel: Smooth, medium viscosity with moderate carbonation. Overall: A very good and unusual stout. The bourbon and molasses aroma are strong along with this flint aroma that Ive gotten on South African Pinotage but never before in a beer. Just the aromas make this one worth getting. Nice and complex with lots of layers of aroma and flavour. Well balanced overall and the alcohol isnt overly noticeable.

Bottle bought at my local LCBO. Yay Nickel Brook! Been waiting for you to nail one. And they did with Kentucky Bastard. Pour with a thin but very dark brown head, dark opaque coffee brown. Aromas of cherry, vanilla and the bourbon. Taste rich and full with cherries, coffee, bourbon, roasty malts. Moderate-low carbonation making a nice creamy mouth-feel. Excellent beer. Thanks!

A 750ml bottle cellared for 4 months. Pours very dark brown, with a foamy brown head that dissipates rather quickly. Aromas of mocha, chocolate milk, and alcohol. Nice rich mouthfeel. Tastes of coffee, malts, red fruits mainly cherries. Very boozy with bourbon undertones to the whole affair. Overall this is an in your face 10 percenter. Will appeal to lovers of coffee oriented beers, and has a nice warming booziness for those who enjoy that sort of thing. Recommended as a sipper. A definite re-buy.

Bottle - 750ml. Pours an opaque black body with low carbonation and an average, brown foamy head. Fantastic, rich, robust malty/hoppy aroma with bourbon, canilla, chocolate, and oaky hints. Alcohol is not agressive at all. Its very well balanced, complex malty/hoppy taste carries bourbon, oaky, chocolate, roasty, licorice, and plummy notes. Texture is soft and bittersweet finish is long, strong, and warming. A gem.

750 ml bottle, 10% a/v. Christmas gift from my brother who frequents the brewery. Pours a very thick black with a deep brown head. Looks like a meal in a glass! Aroma is complex and interesting, chocolate and coffee from the beer but also a notable scent of bourbon from the barrels it has been aged in. The taste is undeniably powerful and fantastically complex. Starting with espresso and bourbon, with chocolate, roasted nuts and a bit of stone fruit. Every sip brings a new flavor, and its just so well balanced. The palate is remarkably full, and delicious. Very glad my brother got me this brew, perfect for a cold winter night!
