3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Stubby bottle labelled "Cuvée van de Generaal" bought home from the pub in Hoegaarden. Pours medium amber with a smallish head. Quite a lot of suspended sediment in the beer, making it less visually impressive than expected/hoped. Fresh, almost grassy aroma. Taste is fairly simple and the alcohol is very present. Not the most balanced or interesting Belgian ale I’ve had.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Launched in 2010 as the blonde counterpart of Alpaïde and tasted under the name "Cuvée van de Generaal". Nice lacing, off-white, mousse-like head, colour peach blonde with lively sparkling. Nose gets ’exotic’ fruits like pineapple, mango, banana and orange, flowery hops, caramel, white bread, soap, but unfortunately also considerable DMS (cooked vegetable). Taste fruity, soft, citrussy, relatively sharp carbonation, minerals, caramelly and bready malt sweetness, finish quite strongly hop bitter with some warm, but not astringent alcohol. Not a bad triple, just a shame they haven’t cooked it longer, which would probably solve the DMS issue (which, in my experience, was less pronounced in the first batches than it is now).

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Stubby bottle 330 ml, at home. Poured into a tulip. ABV 8.5%
Hazy golden orange on the body, with big chunks of yeast floating around it even.Big qhite head, a bit thin but with good retention. Medium kacing keft on the glass.
Aroma is malty, with yeast, manure, light fruity notes emerging from the back.
Taste is much more fruity, with peaches, apricots, floral notes quite bitter too with the bitterness carrying on on the aftertaste for quite long, a bit of bubblegum too.
Medium thin body, highly carbonated.
Much better than what I expected, very good actually.

Bit boring Belgian blond beer, every Belgian brewer thinks he needs to brew one of these.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Blonde dorée, pétillance moyenne, mousse blanche nuageuse abondante. Malts céréales bien tassés d’entrée lentement suivis par une amertume à la fois houblonnée et fruitée avec quelques notes d’épices. Excellent!

Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle. Yellow pour with a white head. The aroma is full of biscuit malt, wheat and oranges. The flavor is similar with a lot of grain, wheat and bread notes. Thin mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
