Taza Stout is lavish comfort in a bottle. During the boil, we add roasted chicory root and ginger, creating coffee tones lightened by a refreshing yet subtle spiciness. After fermentation, we age the beer on organic roasted cacao nibs from Somerville-based Taza Chocolate. The result is a rich and lively chocolate finish that perfectly complements the elegance of our estery Belgian house yeast.

A brown ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, a sweet soapy and beany mal. In mouth, a nice dark roasted malt with light treacle and roasted notes, maple wood, not bad. On tap at Somerville Summerfest, July 14, 2012.

Dark brown color, brown head. The chocolate and the Belgian yeast are not friends. They just don’t marry well together. Odd flavors, yeasty, vegetal.

750mL thanks to WillRunForBeer! Pours clear, but dark brown looking black in the Oerbier stemware with a a luxurious, thick reddish head. Good retention and spotty lacing. Nose is big on the cinnamon and gingerbread. Could pass for a "pumpkin" stout. Unfortunately the taste is very thin and lemon acidic. Comes across as a bit soapy but so much lemon. Feels like 4-5% abv.

Sampled on tap at the brewery. Pours a muddy dark brown, nearly black, with some ruddy, thick head. Nose has a lot of spice happening, cinnamon, ginger, mild nuts, almost peanutty, slightly vegetal, some dark chocolate, dark malt. Flavor is similar, more malt in the mouth, some dark chocolate, nutty, spice. Thin finish. Not bad.

Pours mahogany into a snifter. Mocha head quickly recedes to hug rim. Chocolate, burnt nuts and sour, earthy ginger aromas. Thin with sour ginger upfront turning to chocolate and vanilla in the medium-length finish.

750ml bottle shared by Jimmie, thanks man. Poured a god looking pitch black body with a smaller foamy biege head. Aroma is not very good, somewhere between a combination of ginger, soy sauce, earth and bad choclate. The body is medium with stronger carbonation. Flavor of ginger flavored chocolate, grassy, burnt notes. Meh.

750ml bottle in a Night Shift glass. Pours near black with a lacy, beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, the chicory coffee notes, dark chocolate, some light dough, and a little spiciness. Flavor the same with a nice blend of the chicory, coffee, and the stout. Average texture. A pretty good beer.
