Bottle from Yamaoka. Nice dark-brown/black body, thin tan head. Sweet but not oversweet, espresso flavour folded neatly into the bitterness. Went down quite smoothly. Mouthfeel a little on the thin side, but still decent. A pleasant surprise.

Bottle. Black with a dark brown, frothy, chocolate-Espresso head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, licorice. Flavors more of the same, though a bit too much sourness in there as well. Interesting licorice and coffee flavor. Creamy. Decent, though it felt like it could be put together a bit more smoothly.

Bought for $3 in a beer store in Machida, Japan about 3 blocks from the station. I remember reading about a great Japanese expresso beer, and bought this by mistake. Pours black with no head, but a little wisp of foam around the edge of the glass. Aroma of cardboard. Not unpleasant, but nothing there. Aroma of a watered down roasted grains. Alchohol is completely hidden. I’m not sure I like this variety of hops. It is mild, but the same variety of a macrobrew. It’s lack of flavor and smell keeps it’s rating higher than I would like to give it.

Capa (1905) - Manama, BAHRAIN - MAR 21, 2007
UPDATED: MAY 27, 2007 Pours deep brown with a thin, wispy, tan head. Aroma is sweet molasses, roasted malt, coffee, and lightly earthy. Body is thin, which detracts from the enjoyment. Has a very rich coffee flavor. Roasted malt, licorice, cocoa, soap, and molasses. Finish is sorta tangy/metallic and bittersweet. Meh, could definitly use a thicker body and a more complex flavor. Also the finish wasn’t very good.
