on tap at fraenkische bierfest 2014 in nuremberg. pale golden with a light haze; aroma of fresh lemon juice and haybale; loads of citric tang, doughy; something like a shandy bock

Draught half-liter at Franconian Bierfest Nürnberg, June 2013: Misty blonde. Thin but fully sustained creamy white head. Refined and focused aromas of sugar-glazed lemon zest, fresh baguette and flowers. Fine, soft carbonation. Starchy and fluffy malt reveals a delectable baguette richness which is infused with a vibrant, nectar-sweet Spalter dimension. Highly appetizing in its lemony elegance. Edgeless, cleanly extracted malt graces the palate with exceptional bounce. Juicy surge of hops mirrors the soft and refined pils malt as it creates a seamless fusion of flavor. Finishes with a well-textured hay dust quality and stunningly integrated with a dazzling interplay between orange nectar and lemon cake. Would love to see them ramp up the bitterness and hop flavor for extra depth, but overall it’s a fantastically clean, fluffy, and adroitly balanced zwickelbier. FWIW, the bottles tasted later in the week, procured fresh from the brewery, were considerably inferior and less dynamic than the fresh keg pours.

Draught at Fränkisches Bierfest Nürnberg as zwickel helles lagerbier.
Hazy effervescent yellow-gold bod, fine white head.
Straightforward lemon oil / spice hop aroma, faint smelling but clean.
Little yeast character.
Lightly aromatic baked cracker / pils malt.
Dried / cut grass / mint greenness.
Creamy mouthfeel, medium-low carbonation.
Lightly tart, low sweetness, medium bitterness.
Lemon and melon fruitiness is enjoyable but never blossoms.
Quiet, simple, enjoyable hop acids, light huskiness.

UPDATED: DEC 7, 2013 Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is hazy light to medium yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly hoppy (herbs), with light notes of pastry dough and lemon zest. Flavor is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately bitter. Light to medium body, watery/velvety texture, lively carbonation. A nice, easy-going hell...clean and balanced. Not too exciting but pleasant.

Hazy golden body with a big persistent white head. Grassy aroma. Taste is malty, grassy again. The sweet given by malt is well balanced by a bitter/dry finish. Very drinkable and refreshing

UPDATED: OCT 15, 2014 My Bottom Line :
This cushy unfiltered Helles seduces with herbal, spicy hops whipped into plush pils malts for a most süffig brew.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A creamy head of foam decorates the cloudy blond.
-This was not unlike Feierling’s InselHopf in its pillowy mouthfeel, soft flavor profile and spicy, citrusy hop angles.
-This is the kind of brew you don’t need to think of; it’s flavorful enough for you to want to keep drinking it all evening long AND it’s supremely drinkable.
-The flavor profile is balanced from aroma to finish.

On tap at the brewery gasthof.

I saw it advertised as Zwickl-Pils. This is a light-colored, slightly hazy brew that packs a beautiful hop flavor and aroma.

From tap at the brewpub. It’s slightly hazy, golden with a creamy, white head, and the aroma has notes of fresh baked bread. The slightly sweet flavour is rather dry with notes of fresh baked bread, flower and biscuits, and the finish is dry. It’s a wonderful, straightforward and well-balanced helles.

(swing top bottle) Hazy, yellow colour with a big and blond foamy head. Yeasty grainy malty aroma with citric and slightly herbal hops, accompanied by a touch of barnyard. Sweet and slightly bitter flavour, rather light bodied with a present carbonation. Grainy pale malt-character with a yeasty and subtle fruity touch; medium-dry grainy and milky sweet-bitter and slightly hoppy finish. A tad sweet but easy to drink. 14.XI.10
