Bottle on the shore at SPLIT. This one had a wee bit going for it. It’s a limited style but I enjoyed this one. A bit more to it..

Bottle shared at a tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Thanks mom for this bottle. Clear straw with a soapy white head. Aroma of grains, hay and faint grass. Slightly sweetish flavor, grainy, with a bit of paper hint and a mildly bitterish finish with a faint grassy hint. Light-bodied.

330ml bottle. Clear, yellow-ish golden colour with average, frothy to macropore, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, snow-white head. Grainy, strawy aroma, grassy hoppy overtones show hints of oxidation, pale malty sweetness in the background. Taste is bitter hoppy, pale malty basis with subtle sweetness, a spicy malty touch as well; bitter, minimally metallic and medicinal finish. Not that bad for a Pale Lager.

330ml bottle from a supermarket in Kotor, clear yellow colour, small mostly vanishing frothy white head, fair lacing. Moderately malty aroma of bread and straw with moderate grassy hops. Taste is initally balanced bittersweet turning into a shortish bitter finish. Medium body, slick mouthfeel, lively carbonation. One of the better East European lagers, significantly more hops in the aroma than normally even though bitterness wasn’t particularly high

Flaska från Ivana Trgovina, Split. Guldfärgad öl med vitt frostigt skum. I doften: Malt, säd och gräs. Smakinslag av malt, vitt bröd, gräs, lime och en touch av honung. Lätt beska i eftersmaken. Högst drickbar.

This is the perfect whipping boy for all the folks who are great at misjudging beer by not understanding what particular characteristics certain styles are supposed to actually possess.. Like the folks who are critical of Helles beer for looking "piss yellow." Niksicko is not an amazing beer, but it’s a clean tasting, super light, super pale lager.... like the name of the style specifically suggests. If there were ANY defects in this beer, they would be glaring, due to the light body, light flavor, and delicate over-all character of the beer. But there aren’t any. So, if you don’t like this beer because it’s not an 11% imperial stout, or a 9% barley wine, or whatever else it is that you prefer to drink rather than a pale lager, then fine -- don’t drink it. But also, don’t crap on it because you simply don’t like delicate pale lagers from Eastern Europe. If I lived in Montenegro and this was the only beer that I could get, I’d be pretty pleased.
