Aroma of dark chocolate, espresso and roasted malt along with light green hops and some cream. Flavour of roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, green hops and a bit of alcohol. Roasty, bitter coffee finish. Creamy mouthfeel. Medium bodied. Very good stuff and a nice example of the style. CharlesDarwin (1835), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 3, 2008 33cL Bottle. Nice salty roast. Oak and chocolate. Spicy. Simple, molassed and fresh. Pour deep black-brown with a frothy build of creamy tan. Flavor is piquant. A sharp, acidic roast. Not creamy. Biting and roasted. A nip of caramel. Toasted. A simple, singular flavor. But, nice, crisp and clean. Dry. Nicely fermented. Delicious and well-done. No overwhelming alcohols. DSG (1501), Tel Aviv, Israel
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 27, 2008 Bottle (thanks omhper!). Black-colored with a big and very bubbly light brown head. Lovely aroma of dark chocolate, some liquor pralines, quite a bit of dark fruits (raisins, some plums and maybe some faint grapes and berries notes) and a bit of alcohol. Sweet flavor of roasted malt, some chocolate and some fruitiness. Finishes mildly bitter with burnt, slightly smoky, malt and hints of caramelly sweetness. Medium-bodied. The flavor cannot match the complexity of the aroma but this is still a tasty stout. Ljunkan (385), Karlstad, Sweden
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 25, 2008 Bottle. Ah, nice chocolatelike aroma with some fudge and coffee. Taste is good with coffee and chocolate; all in all typical stout flavours. Overall this is good beer, even though I’ve had better imperial stouts. Hm, maybe you’re right about it being an Foreign Stout rather than an Imperial. ajm (917), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 25, 2008 I quite enjoyed this. Bottle from Holiday Wine Cellar. Very nice coffee flavor, and the chocolate notes are a bit on the milky side to keep the coffee round rather than dry. Very slight charcoal flavor too. m4rest88 (216), Beverly Hills, California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 25, 2008 This beer starts off with a molasses/caramel aroma coupled with a strong dark chocolate and coffee aroma. The beer smells a little bit soy suacey with a hint of licorice as well.
The head is a small size with a light brown color. The head longevity is mostly diminishing and the body is very dark - its actually so dark that one can’t tell whether or not its hazy, murky, or muddy!!!
The body hue is a dark brownish black color.
The initial flavor is moderately sweet and the finish taste is lightly acetic. To the Palate, the beer feels medium to full and a bit syrupy. The carbonation is lively and the finish feel is lightly astringent. douglas88 (1579), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 22, 2008 Bottle from Sams in Chicago. Pours a clear black body with a tiny beige head. The aroma is mostly burnt coffee and sweets. The taste was full of bitter burnt flavors; toffee and coffee beans, some plum and overall a smooth and tasty stout. A bit too thin, but very enjoyable. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 22, 2008 Bottle courtesy of Tony at Oldsmar Tap House: Pours pitch black with an off-white ring of head. Aroma is ashy, like day-old campfire, some burnt coffee and malts. Flavor is smooth chocolate malt throughout, and a tinge of soy sauce over roasted coffee. An odd brew, but enjoyable.
