| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 28, 2008 A vigorous pour produces a fat-one-finger thick, frothy, lightly brown tinged, tan colored head. The beer is near black, but shows flashes of brilliantly clear, deep ruby notes around the edges if held up directly to the light. The aroma is somewhat rich with lots of dark malt character; aromas of chocolate, well toasted rich grain notes, a touch of dark roast coffee, a touch of charcoal, and some earthy, dusty burnt grain husk aromatics. Underneath the dark malt is a touch of burnt fruit character reminiscent of overly broiled raisins and prunes.
Somewhat light feeling for an Imperial Stout, but well within character for a stout of 7% abv. The beer is quite roast dominated with burnt malts providing both a touch of acidity and a palate coating, dry burnt character up front. This palate coating burnt note is counter balanced and somewhat washed away by a sweetness that takes hold towards the middle into the finish and which provides flavors of burnt, sweet plums and roast raisins. This has a fair amount of sweetness to it, especially as it warms up; the sweetness is perhaps not as rich and malty as I prefer in an Imperial Stout, but is instead more like a fruit-forward, clean sweetness. This has a fairly low carbonation (thus the minimal head despite a vigorous pour), this makes this a bit smoother drinking. The beer has a medium heft to it, enough to coat the palate just a bit, but not enough to keep this from being fairly drinkable.
As a contemporary Imperial Stout this seems quite week, but even ten years ago this was a decent strength version. A tasty brew that seems a bit more like a strong stout. I almost feel like I could quaff a couple pints of this brew, which says something both about the strength and the flavor of this brew. Tasty!

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 24, 2008 Very full bodied roasted coffee aroma. Lots of chocolate makes its way into the scent as well. Dark black pour with virtually no head. What does show is a light brown. Consistency builds with temperature. Very nice sweet roasted malt and chocolate flavors at first and a great lightly bitter coffee finish. tjthresh (1765), Greenfield, Indiana, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 22, 2008 Bottle from BeerandBlues2. Pours opaque black with a nice brown head. Creamy dark chocolate aroma. The flavor is a nice bland of all the typical stout flavors. The chocolate probably stands out the most. Medium/full body. Creamy. Above average amount of carbonation. Dry finish. Very good. santos999 (318), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Mar 20, 2008 Courtesy of Nate. Pours a bubbly dark brown with a thin tan head. Dark, bittersweet chocolate aroma with molasses and bready notes, and a touch of a metallic twang. Rich, oily, and slick taste with coffee, molasses, chocolate, roasty, bittersweet, bready and cakey notes. A very good stout. Smooth, creamy, drinkable, and conveniently low alcohol. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 13, 2008 Updated: Sep 4, 2009How: Bottle, 11.2oz. A few times. Always consumed fresh a few years (!) before expiration date.
The look: Black body with a little tan ring of foam
In long: Quite a bit of bittersweet black chocolate, medium-high roastiness level, café mocha, roasted coffee beans, a little cheesy, not much in the way of fruity flavours except maybe some figs. Medium body, medium carbonation. After-taste is very reminiscent of the after-taste of eating a 70% cacao black chocolate bar. Loses a few points because of a light annoying soy sauce flavour. May not be the best imperial stout around but of all the Swedish Imperial Stout I’ve had this year, this was undoubtedly… well… the only one. swoopjones (1897), Buffalo, New York, USA

| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 19/20 | Mar 11, 2008 Updated: Mar 26, 2008A cold pour produces a two finger head that slowly reduces to a silky canopy and a fluffy ring of lace. Rich aromas of cocoa and coffee bean. Medium nectar with ample residual effers. This brew is by far not the American version of the style. It’s more refined and balanced, thats not a bad thing is it Mr Dark Lord..he he he. The flavors are strong on chocolate and coffee yet mildly roasted. It’s a cafe mocha with only a mild touch of sweetness. Very enjoyable and very tastey, just not over the top. Theres a few barnyard flavor floating around in there aswell. The finish is bittered mildly. Overall: it’s a little thin but it has strong aromas and focused flavors.
