Commercial Description:
Nils Oscar Imperial Stout is brewed only in a limited edition. Also Nils Oscar Imperial Stout was awarded as the best beer in the world. This beer is brewed with many varieties of hops and malt, nothing saved to make the stout full of character. Imperial Stout is best enjoyed combined with the dessert but works wonderfully with oysters. The Nils Oscar Imperial Stout can be enjoyed today but preferably mature a couple of years.

Bottle pours dark brown with a slight tan head. Aromas of rosted malts, chocolate and some caramel. Flavors of roasted malts, milk chocolate, raisin, and molasses. Medium body, and fairly thin on the palate for an impy. Somewhat dry on the finish.

Bottle: Pours black with an off white head. Aroma, fruits, some coffee, chocolate. Flavor, coffee, chocolate, roasted malts, and a dry roasty bitterness. Good stuff.

Bottle. Big thanks to omhper for sending this all the way out here. Abv on this bottle is 7.0, not 6.5. Pours ruby-black, thin beige head with lacing. Notes of chocolate and coffee in the aroma, a slightly sour odor in there as well. Very enticing. Thick, consistency really fills up your entire mouth with chewy malty goodness. Flavor is very delicately balanced - prominent, complex coffee-flavors, slightly sweet, with a little alcohol taste as it warms up. Also a little bit of hoppy bitterness in the finish. A real treat. As I sit drinking this in the oppresive tropical heat of Taiwan, dreaming of a cool spring evening on the baltic as I sip this beer.

Thin tan head that faded quickly. Dark brown body. Faint aromas of chocolate and roast, lightly earthy with some medicinal notes. Body is light, thin, lightly creamy. Light roast, chocolate and an unfortunate amount of bandaid flavor also. Lightly smokey and earthy. Dry, thin finish. I do believe this puppy has seen better days. Over aged i guess? A wimpy Impy.. Thanks to Robert @ state line for this one.

Re-rate, May 09, bottle about a year old: Not nearly as smokey as my first review reads, some roast, but some serious chocolate going on. Flavor was better than the prior write-up, but the oxidized/metallic type notes were absoultely still present along with some acidity. Very faint vinous notes in the background, some hops in the finish. Original rating: Bottle, courtesy of Robert at a long vertical and horizontal run of excellent imperial stouts @ statelineliquors.com. Poured a deep brownish color, not quite black as black. The aroma was chocolate with some smoked notes. The flavor was smoked (almost peaty) chocolate, bandaids (not a good thing either), dust, cobwebs, and almost an oxidized or metallic flavor. Mouthfeel was thin. Noting the abv on the bottle after tasting, at 7%, this surely isn’t a surprise to lage behind the other fine Imperial Stout concoctions of the night. Nevertheless, thanks to Robert for this opportunity!

Bottle courtesy of hopscotch. Pours deep brown with some ruby red hints and a light brown head. Smells of dark fruit, sweet malt, some tanginess. Tastes of chocolate, cherries, sweet malt, pepper, tea and on the earthy side. Mouthfeel is full with a somewhat bitter finish.

Bottle. Nice average creamy off-white head that mostly lasted. Excellent lacing. Pitch black colour. Very fruity nose with other notes being liquorish, coffee, chocolate, smoke, roasted. Medium bodied with a flat carbonation. Flavour was moderates sweet malt with some burned bitter notes. Nice smooth and sweet finish with hint of the burned notes.
