Commercial Description:
Nils Oscar Imperial Stout is brewed only in a limited edition. Also Nils Oscar Imperial Stout was awarded as the best beer in the world. This beer is brewed with many varieties of hops and malt, nothing saved to make the stout full of character. Imperial Stout is best enjoyed combined with the dessert but works wonderfully with oysters. The Nils Oscar Imperial Stout can be enjoyed today but preferably mature a couple of years.

Bottle. Pours a deep brown body with red tinges on the edges and a small white head. The aroma has raisins, yeast, and chocolate. The flavour isn’t as smooth as I’d like it to be with simple notes of caramel, chocolate, and toffee. Pretty good but not spectacular. Sampled at the Københavnske Øldage 2006 on May 20, 2006.

Courtesy of MrWalker <!-- P --> Aroma has sharp salty soy notes, esspresso, dark chocolate, roasted notes and delicious fudge brownie kind of smell. Dark brown to black body with a quickly diminishing wispy mocha head. Very sharp and bitter in the fore, but it is a burnt bitter not a hoppy bitter. Lots of dark chocolate flavors that are both sweet and bitter. It’s pretty thin on the palate, but the incredible intensity of flavor moderates that a little. Feels like a porter int he mouth, but there are no mistaking the soy, coffee, chocolate and immensely bitter burnt flavors of an IS.

A very tasty stout. Lot’s of malt and hops in the taste. Since I had it right out of a bottle I can’t really judge the aroma too well. Some tastes of chocolate as well. Will review this as soon as I have from a glas. I expect it to be soon.

Black body, brown shine, light brown creamy fast disappearing head, some laces; Very intense nose, not very deep, but quite complex: sweet soy sauce (not salty), bitter chocolate, milk chocolate, toffee; balanced body, with great carbonation and a soft texture; into long but a bit thin finish, quite bitter with licorice, bitter chocolate, some malt, some alcohol. the alcohol shines through in both nose, body and finish, but all in all very, very nice beer, that I wish I had some more bottles of.

2003 Vinatge: Poured a very dark brown color with a copper rim and small tan head. Tan oily film on the glass walls. Nice aroma of chocolate, smoke, and light soy. Sweet and roasty malt. Dark fruits and light alcohol. Roasted malt flavor. The flavor was light though. Maybe from the age. Roasty bitter finish. Body is a little thin for an IS.

Bottle. Pours in a glass this black beer with its light browninsh foam. Looks very good. And the taste! Haevy, roasty, medium sweetness and a long finnish. One of the better stouts.

Bottle into tulip glass, The Friday imperial stout tasting, summer 2005. Almost dope. Head disipates quickly. Transluscent ruby in the glass. Tan head. Smooth and medium bodied. Flavor starts woody with port, transitions to full chocolate and a good level of malt sweetness, and then a dry roasty and bitter finish with a hint of alcohol showing through. By the books, exactly what I like in an imperial stout. I wish it were a bit fuller in the body, though.
