DuffMan (2721), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada Jan 23, 2009 Near-black, opaque pour with ruby highlights. Sweet currants, leather, chocolate, caramel, tobacco. On the shy side of full-bodied, chewy, sweet with a dry finish. Elegant and delicious. JaBier (1130), Capital City, Ohio, USA Jan 19, 2009 Bottle sampled at the Hopsnobbery Collective stout tasting on 1.16.09 courtesy of Dogbrick. Pours darkest brown with a medium beige head. Aroma of coffee and a bit of sweetness. Malty flavor with coffee and chocolate that is slightly metallic. Pretty good foreign stout. Dogbrick (2816), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jan 19, 2009 Sampled at the Hopsnobbery Collective Stout tasting on 01/16/09. This beer is nearly black with with a thin light tan head that diminishes steadily. Spotty lacing on the glass. The aroma is moderately roasty malt and chocolate. Medium, dry body with flavors of roasted coffee and cocoa. Mild hops bite as well. The finish is burnt malt and coffee with a lightly bitter hops aftertaste. Pretty good all around. alobar (1006), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 17, 2009 Thick black color-viscous. Minimal tan head. Good solid lacing. Big nose of licorice, malts, and chocolate. On the tongue, bit bitter.... chocolate, coffee, licorice. A bit sweet on the back end. Very different. Very nice! railcat1 (578), Orlando, Florida, USA Jan 16, 2009 Bottle, this poured a black and was kinda thin but still had a nice tan head, with hints of chocolate and malts and had a sweet finish also was light on the abv but overall not bad.CHERS! Cybercat (778), Georgia, USA Jan 11, 2009 Comes out of the bottle black as midnight with a frothy tan head. Aroma is rich and strong, like fine roast coffee with an undertone of miso and just a hint of unsweetened chocolate. Main flavor component is unsweetened chocolate, and there are smoky, coffee and nutty hints as well, plus just a whisper of sweetness. Texture is as smooth as silk, and leaves a roast coffee aftertaste. I’ll be trying this again, sometime. jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 8, 2009 2008-12-20. Black body with a modest tan head that fades. (3+) Dry roast aroma, over mild dark malts. Flavour starts with a similarly dry dusty roast character that precedes a sweeter dark malt base. Touches of chocolate/cocoa are variable and lean towards the dry overall theme, bitterness in the finish along with some chalky notes, like Ovaltine powder or similar? Smooth medium to full bodied palate is lightly carbonated. Solid, serviceable imperial stout, but does not suit my own tastes enough to get me to hurry back. Bottle from Premier Gourmet, Buffalo
Travlr (700), Washington, Washington DC, USA Jan 7, 2009 Black. White head. Aroma of cocoa powder. Taste of dark bitter chocolate with roasted coffee. Bitter smoky finish. Subtle and complex.
