Rastacouere (5409), Montréal, Quebec, Canada May 30, 2007 Akkurat Dark reddish brown coloured ale with a quickly departing off-white head. Strongly yasty nose, mostly the bready type and staying in conjunction with the rather rich, soothing malt character that has started to develop light sherry flavors that mingle around plum pudding, grapey minor acidity, strawberry. Rather warming, perhaps a bit rummy if not overwhelming in its alcohol notes. It got a desserty tang, besides being a bit roasty, say an overcooked chocolate cake might unveil similar aromas. Limited sweetness. Still in rather good shape, the carbonation, despite the restrained head, remains rather vigorous, but waiting longer would be pointless. Red ruby color, small off-white head. Toasted malts, berries, hints of alcohol and prunes. Ageing has made palate very smooth and creamy, almost liquer-like. Alcohol is almost non-existent. I can trace flavors of chocolate, vanilla, prunes and fudge. Sweetish aftertaste. This beer has aged great, absolutely fabulous vintage of NO Julöl. oh6gdx (6339), Vaasa, Finland Apr 7, 2007 Bottled (huge thanks to omhper!). Ruby red colour, small off-white head. Plum, raisins, alcohol, some marzipan and caramel malts in aroma. Flavour is plum, raisins, spices, caramel malts, toffee and some hints of yeast. A very wellbalanced and wellaged beer. gnoff (2831), Göteborg, Sweden Jan 3, 2007 (50 cl bottle) Shared with a good friend on New Years Eve, he’s saved it for lots of years, now he shares it with me so I could rate it :) Best Before Jan 06 Clear dark red brown color, tan head. Strong alcohol and acidic dark malt scent. Belgian ale yeast smell when swirled. Nice smooth sweet taste with some chocolate and dark malts aftertaste. No obvious alcohol taste. Smooth mouthfeel, low bitterness. Warming alcohol gut feeling. The taste is like heaven, a great beer! Jeppe (2636), Ølbutikken, Denmark Nov 27, 2004 Sampled from draught at Stockholm Beer & Whisky Festival 2004 (#14). What a treat from Nils Oscar bringing this 4 years old beer on keg to the festival! Clear dark brown body with a fine off-white head. Strong sweet malty and fruity aroma with obvious apple notes and little alcohol. Hints of cellar. Flavor is fruity and dusty. Rather sweet and somewhat cloying with notes of apple and hay. Interesting but close to beeing over the top.
