Commercial Description:
This beer has its orgin in the Bavarian beer type ’festbier’ or ’oktoberfestbier’. Like ’festbier’ and ’vienna style beer’, Nils Oscar Kalasöl is of a somewhat darker type. The Nils Oscar Kalasöl is produced with both münchenermalt, dark caramelmalt, chocolatmalt and some roasted barley. The choice of hops is a mix of four kinds where the most characteristic are brittish fuggles, american cascade and czech saaz.
Kalasöl is a rounded beer with a mildly roasted breadish character. It can be recommended together with heavy foods, like joints of roast meat, spicy stews, broiled meat and fowl.

Pours amber with a tall, semi spritzy froth. Good head retention reducing to a full dusty canopy leaving snail tracks down the glass. Aromas of caramel malted biscuits. Nice! Medium nectar with ample residual effers creating a soft cottony texture. Bright and crisp, this brew is alive. Well integrated flavors of caramel, citrus peel, biscuits, herbs, and a bit of mineral. The finish lingers with perfect bittering. Highly recommended.

Pours darker amber with a soft khaki head. Toasty malts up front, caramel and sweet bread. Finish is earthy, solid hops to ease up the malts.

330 ml bottle. Beautiful clear, golden amber body with a medium beige head. Lovely aroma of caramel malt. Flavor is malty, caramel and harmonic sweet/bitter. Fine finish. Nice, tasty and quaffable.

Bottle. Amber pour with one finger off white head. Alot of carbonation. A mild malt and hop aroma. Caramel malt taste with spice and smoke. Dry bitter finish. Not too much going on here it was just ok for me.

Bottle from SL, complete train wreck. Pour was deep full amber-orange-ish type deal, completely busted head. The aroma was grassy, earthy, dirt-like, stale vegetables almost. Flavor followed the aroma, sweet caramel playing against the earthy, grassy, dirt-like character, nuts also in the background. A very unpleasing experience from a style that is often enjoyable. Don’t even want to know what I paid for this.

Pours a five finger light tan head that fades slowly to a thin layer leaving some lace. Crystal clear amber color. Medium carbonation and light-medium bodied. Hoppy nose. Flavor is mostly hoppy with malt and occasional sweetness, smooth. Slight lingering bitter aftertaste. $4.99 for a 330ml bottle from John’s Marketplace Portland, OR. Label has the ABV at 13.1%.

Pours a clear and good looking amber with a thin line of crème head. Nose is almost like a syrup. Flavor is robust with a leafy start, but it seems to get over-taken by a tone that is just too sweet and tangy to appreciate. Unbalanced. Feel is decent on the liquid and the carbonation is nice too. Decent. Seems a bit unbalanced though and that detracts.

Pours a transparent copper orange with a thin, spotty-lacing white head. Aroma of toasty grainy caramel malts with authentic noble hop balance. Starts lightly sweet with some earthy toasty grain and nutty notes and a hint of light fruity tartness toward a drier finish. A pretty true to style Vienna, but could use a little more sweetness and less tartness.
