This beer has its orgin in the Bavarian beer type ’festbier’ or ’oktoberfestbier’. Like ’festbier’ and ’vienna style beer’, Nils Oscar Kalasöl is of a somewhat darker type. The Nils Oscar Kalasöl is produced with both münchenermalt, dark caramelmalt, chocolatmalt and some roasted barley. The choice of hops is a mix of four kinds where the most characteristic are brittish fuggles, american cascade and czech saaz.
Kalasöl is a rounded beer with a mildly roasted breadish character. It can be recommended together with heavy foods, like joints of roast meat, spicy stews, broiled meat and fowl.

Bottle - 33cl. Nice dark amber body topped with a diminishing off-white creamy head. Good malty aroma with hoppy and herbal hints. Taste is dominated by hoppy flavors (Fuggle) which are also prominent in the long and delightful finish.

The colour is clear, deep copper red with brown tones. The medium-sized beige foam disappears into a very thin layer. The smell is somewhat sour with lots of malt. There are some notes of brown sugar and dough. The carbon dioxide is mild with small bubbles. The burned, generous is taste is bitter with a little touch of metal. There are notes of almonds, and caramel malt. The aftertaste is dry, bitter and finishes with a slowly descending taste of dark bread. This is a nice interpretation of the Märtzen concept. As usual, it is a really good beer from the small Nils Oscar’s brewery

Nice fruity hops nose, grapefruit, cat pee. Malty balance. Red amber clear with ligh lacig head. Light-medium body with medium carbonation. Starts with nice malt, tangy hopy character. Nice rounded bitterness, with sweetness at the back of the throat. Finish is dry, clean, bitter. Good malt note before a medium bitter after. Nice beer.

UPDATED: JUL 12, 2004 (on bottle)I gotta say this for all the Nils Oscars; the labels are very beautifull.A bigbubbled head and a deep ambertone. Hoppr caramel nose, with some small notes of dried dates. Allmost n IPA-sent. Round body, not much difference from the aroma. A very good balanced beer.

Is this beer an Oktoberfest/Märzen style beer? Imho this is an vienna style beer.... I must admit that I have never been so impressed over a swedish beer, as I was with this one. From the nice dark colour, over the sweet aroma and the flavor of caramel, this beer is just nice.

Dark amber color with medium, cloudy lacy head. Caramel-malty, sweetish, somewhat hoppy aroma. Quite pleasant, malty and sweetish flavor -not very interesting, though. Medium-bodied, slicky-oily palate with medium carbonation. A well-made, balanced and malty dark lager.
