COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer has its orgin in the Bavarian beer type ’festbier’ or ’oktoberfestbier’. Like ’festbier’ and ’vienna style beer’, Nils Oscar Kalasöl is of a somewhat darker type. The Nils Oscar Kalasöl is produced with both münchenermalt, dark caramelmalt, chocolatmalt and some roasted barley. The choice of hops is a mix of four kinds where the most characteristic are brittish fuggles, american cascade and czech saaz.
Kalasöl is a rounded beer with a mildly roasted breadish character. It can be recommended together with heavy foods, like joints of roast meat, spicy stews, broiled meat and fowl.

Slightly hazy bronzy orange with small but lacy whitish head. Aroma is a bit toffy, caramel malty with some grassy hoppyness. Sweet, much malty and slightly roasty, bready flavor with OK hoppy finish. Medium-bodied and oily palate. A pleasant refreshing brew but no specialty.

11.2oz bottle. Pours a coppery dark amber with a firm off-white head. Aroma is sweet and malty, with scents of syrupy hops, caramel, roasted malt, and floral notes. Taste is light and crisp, with a flavor of caramel, dark fruit, and syrupy hops giving way to a dry finish of roasted malt. Light but full-flavored -- delicious brew.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. 330ml. Pours medium-sized, creamy, yellow-green head, thinning out to a decent, thin head that covers the whole surface for a good while, with fine bubbles. Clear, orange-copper body. Mid carbonation. Aroma - Heavy, dark caramel & choc malt. Salty crackerish malt too & quite cerealish. Some savoury, vegetabley smell (not sulphurous). Fruity, lightly estery yeast and spiciness. Lightly spicy & herby hops. Taste - Balanced. Bready, cracker, cereal malt and savoury mineralness. Some dark, slightly sweet, molasses and fruity brown sugar & dark choc. Hops are light and herby, light bitterness. Lightly hoppy, very lightly bitter finish; over quickly, leaving clean palate. Heavyish, mid-full body, warming, smooth. Unusually dark malty tasting for a lager, but somewhat lacking on the hop-front: Hops are dull and too far back in the mix.

330ml bottle on a balkony i Lund. Hoppy, sweet, toasty, grassy, lovely aroma. Ok head, amber colour. Metallic bitterness, a bit too sweet and too bitter lowers my overall rating. C

Wonderful dark copper to amber color. Fine white head that slowly vanishes. Strong bitterness crossed with malt and hops. The beer has an earth-like feel which I often find and like in Oktoberfests. Thanks Eructoblaster for another good Nils Oscar!

Pleasant aroma, taste and palate, but I’m not thrilled. [short review due to it coming from my backlog]

Bottle. Dark amber color with a fading head. Mild bitter and hoppy aroma. A light flavor of a good mixture between hops and malt, bitter character. Something malty in the finish but it doesn’t leave a long taste on the palate. I say it’s very close to the same brewers India Ale, despite being a different type of beer.
