3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Stine (1398) - St. Paul, Minnesota, USA - MAY 26, 2008
Ruddy mahogany red pour; pillowy, creamy soda foam. Mineral, berry, and earthy toasted malt aroma. Candied pecans, and caramel, but more rustic than rich. A big, warm cinnamon spiciness in bonfire smoke unfolds with a surprising depth. Flavor is gritty, bittersweet pecan at first. Sugary tones of malt shuffle about; crispy hints of apple and candied nuts on basic dark bread. A wink of black malt astringency lingers a bit, with some grapefruity hop, waning into a sharp, sweet middle of baked pears. Thin palate is fittingly not sharply carbonated, retaining smoothness; finishes short, with some earthy sweetness of cinnamon sugar smacking lightly. Casually enjoyable. Thanks Joshua!

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Maria (7805) - Thisted, DENMARK - APR 6, 2008
The Fonefan/Brugmansia Cnudde tasting. Courtesy of Papsoe. Red-brown with notes of roasted malt and caramel. The flavour has notes of roasted malt, a roasted bitterness, hints of coffee and chocolate, hints of flower and nuts and some grapefruit, that makes it rather dry. The overall impression is somewhat thin, and even if a BA is one of the lighter beers, I still prefer them to be smooth, round and pleasant, not edgy like this one.
