A dark brown ale deriving maltiness from two types of American crystal malts, yet not overly heavy in body. Rounded with a nutty flavor from chocolate malt and a hint of black patent malt. Finished with aromatics from Czech Saaz hops.

12 oz bottle pours a brown color with an off white head. Aromas of roasted malt, nuts, dark chocolate. Medium bodied, lightier than I expected

Very perfumey taste. A little dry, bitter, not my favorite. The perfume like taste just ruins it for me

Bottle. Pours a very dark brown color with a very small head on there. Nose has hints of nuttiness to it, but is not particularly fragrant. Taste is also just a bit sour, and seems like it’s spoiled a bit. Not very good.

Forgettable brown. Chocolate brown colored. Nutty and chocolate taste. Slightly bitter finish. Not horrific, but just another brown.

10/5/14. 12oz bottle from Exit 18. Nutty aroma, mild chocolate, smells very much like the red of theirs I just tried. Chalky flavor, tannic grains, some nuttiness and chocolate. Meh

Tastes like a sour and a brown ale smashed into one. It's tasty, but sort of bland.

From a bottle from Lazy Dog. Pours hazy copper brown with a fizzy off white head. Tastes nutty, like dry roasted malt, light bitter grapefruit. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like sweet roasted malt.

UPDATED: DEC 12, 2014 12 oz bottle poured into a snifter. Beer is clear dark brown but nearly opaque in the glass. Small tan head quickly reduced to a thin partial crown leaving spotty lacing. Aroma: Medium malts, toffee, chocolate and a hint of roasted nuts and vanilla. Flavor: caramel and medium roasted malts and a touch of vanilla. Good sweet/bitter balance. Mouthfeel: smooth; coarse, medium carbonation imparts a bit of tingle. Medium body. Overall: the good bottles were modestly better than average nut brown ale; but 2-3 others were drain pours.
