A dark brown ale deriving maltiness from two types of American crystal malts, yet not overly heavy in body. Rounded with a nutty flavor from chocolate malt and a hint of black patent malt. Finished with aromatics from Czech Saaz hops.

Very good. I can only find it a few places in San Diego, but I when I do I buy everything they have. This is like a Newcastle on Black Tar Heroin. Extremely good beer. Starts nice, finishes with a nap.

12 oz bottle poured into a snifter. Beer is clear dark brown but nearly opaque in the glass. Small tan head quickly reduced to a thin partial crown leaving spotty lacing. Aroma: Medium malts, toffee, chocolate and a hint of roasted nuts and vanilla. Flavor: caramel and medium roasted malts and a touch of vanilla. Good sweet/bitter balance. Mouthfeel: smooth; coarse, medium carbonation imparts a bit of tingle. Medium body. Overall: a modestly better than average nut brown ale.

Iím currently ďon ice,Ē dealing with a winter storm. Luckily I have beer to keep my company. 12 ounce stubby bottle poured into a plastic cup. When youíre stuck at your hotel you canít be picky. Nimbus states that this is an American Brown Ale, so Iíll be reviewing it as such. The beer pours with a frothy creamy head, somewhat uneven. Not sure if thatís my choice of glassware. Color is a deep brown with very pretty ruby highlights. Clarity is difficult to discern but this appears to be almost brilliantly clear, but again with my choice of glassware I canít say for certain. Aroma is deeply bready and toasty, reminding me a little bit of a toasted English muffin, topped with a mixture of dark brown sugar and dry cocoa powder. Smells really inviting, actually, with a promise of malt sweetness. No real hop character is present in the nose, maybe something earthy buried in the background. No alcohol phenols or yeast characteristics. The beer takes a while to acclimate to, as the taste doesnít really follow the smell. There is a big chocolate note up front, followed by what I would describe as earthy hop bitterness. There is a faint note of dark fruit Ė raisin or plum Ė which could be a function of fermentation or possibly dark crystal malt. The body of this beer is relatively light, and you could even criticize it for being a little bit thin. Carbonation is low to medium Ė this beer does not have a lot of carbonic bite. I wonder if this was brewed with oats or something else, as it has a little bit of slickness in the mouth with a slightly ashy or acrid (and I donít mean that in a bad way) finish. Nimbus leans more towards the sweet side of the Brown Ale style, not necessarily cloying but certainly right on that edge. Overall this he beer balances to the light and sweet side. To me, it feels more like an Imperial Southern English Brown or Imperial Mild ale. Which is okay. However, I was hoping for a more classic example of an American Brown Ale. Iíd like to see the body of the beer bumped up a tad. Additionally the hopping could be bumped up pretty significantly, to help balance out the malt sweetness. Itís a pleasant beer nonetheless and Iím not disappointed having tried it.

Bottle from BevMo, Phoenix. Nutty, roasted malt aroma with some caramel malt. Pours medium brown with a large tan head and good lacing. Caramel malt up front with some nutty flavors. Finishes dry with the roasted malt coming through strongly and lingering on the palate. Decent brown ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A clear reddish brown ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with light maple notes, woody, so-so. In mouth, a sweetish nutty malt with no hops, watery, boring. On tap at brewery.

Opaque dark brown with an out-of-control head that stays at four whipped cream fingers for 15 minutes; swirls of lace. If this is a brown ale, it is on illegal steroids. Heavy, filling, roasted malt with overtones of coffee and chocolate, bitter coffee finish.....isnít that a description of a stout, or at least a porter? Fair, not great.

Arizona tick. So a brown ale is just a lighter roasted brew. Took me about 13 years of drinking them to come to this "epiphany." Pours a light clearish brown with small white head. Scent is watered down coffee. Roasty and slightly sweet flavor. Light-Medium mouthfeel with just a touch of carbonation. Bottle - Ale Yeah! - Decatur, GA

12 fl oz / 355mL bottle into a pint glass. Served cold. Aroma: Kind of a mild chocolate and toffee. Appearance: Dark ruby/brown translucent body with a light tan, creamy head. Very nice lacing. Taste: Not nutty. Iím not sure how to describe it. Itís kind of like soy sauce, or hot sauce-y. Itís better than it sounds, but itís not very good. Palate: Pretty light bodied. Abrupt finish. Overall: Kind of disappointing. I was looking forward to a nice, nutty brown ale. I tried to keep an open mind, but I didnít care for this one too much.
