Our Old Monkeyshine Ale is an exceptional example of a true, traditional-style English Pub beer. Nimbus Old Monkeyshine Ale is medium bodied and possesses a distinct, dark roasted flavor. Its sweet malty taste is derived from liberal use of seven varieties of specialty malts and a touch of brown sugar. Our Old Monkeyshine Ale is dark in color, beginning with a slight caramel malt overtone and rounded with a relatively dry finish from its English Kent Goldings hops. The hops aroma is mildly subdued and the bitterness is just enough to balance the profile of this beer. Nimbus Old Monkeyshine Ale is a true premium ale and is priced accordingly. Weíre so proud of this beer for its body, taste, alcohol content and drinking enjoyment, it may just become our signature beer. Be warned: its wonderful malty sweetness camouflages the 8.0% alcohol by volume content. Itís a winner!

Bottle; poured a dark cola brown with a big, frothy khaki head. Aroma of caramel, bread, fruit, sweetness, and a bit of nuts. Flavor was very bready, cocoa and caramel. Some mineral and nutty qualities.

Dark brown pour with a nice tan head. Aroma has some roasted malt, banana, wheat bread and light toffee. Flavor has some nice notes, but its a bit overwhelmed by an alcohol flavor that isnít so welcomed. I get some good malt, caramel, light yeast, some light buttery notes...but the finish is a bit hot and bitter. An odd one here.

12 oz. bottle thanks to BavarianPurity! It pours a dark amber color with a small tan head. The aroma is straight brown sugar and chocolate malt. The flavor is very sweet with a big maple syrup, brown sugar, molasses thing going on, yet it remains pretty light bodied. It has a nice bitter, toasty finish. This is a pretty nice beer, but a little too sweet and syrupy. (in the flavor not the body)

12 oz Bottle from Plaza liquers. Wow! What a great beer! Rich dark brown pour with a nice head. Fresh thirst quencher with a nice kick. Roasted dry finish. This needs to be sent nationwide!

Near black with thick tan creamy head and foamy lacing. Malty aroma has a faint tinge of rubbing alcohol lurking the background. Bitter / sweet taste of dark-roasted coffee and toffee. Creamy mouthfeel.

12oz bottle. Pours a very dark brown, almost black color with a cream colored head. Smell is very much barley and roasted malts. Creamy mouth feel. Tastes of dark rich malts with an aftertaste I canít quite name. I LIKE this beer!

Maybe I got an old bottle but this was disappointing. I was hoping for more depth. Instead I got a run of the mill 8% ABV beer that is heavy on the booze and light on complexity. More balance would make this light years better.

Aroma / Appearance - Excessive amounts of head took their sweet time folding into a maroon base. It took over ten minutes before I could see more than a corona of brown foam. Rich stained mahogany, cinnamon candy, and stale cardboard tell me something in this was off. I canít put a finger on it but this was not so old that it should have been this far past its prime.

Flavor / Palate - Heavy and cloying there is too much warmth relative to the other flavors. Stale chocolate, warm red hots, and used oil form a boring and dull experience almost from start to finish. There is simply too much ethanol and not enough taste here for this to be worthwhile.
