COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Old Monkeyshine Ale is an exceptional example of a true, traditional-style English Pub beer. Nimbus Old Monkeyshine Ale is medium bodied and possesses a distinct, dark roasted flavor. Its sweet malty taste is derived from liberal use of seven varieties of specialty malts and a touch of brown sugar. Our Old Monkeyshine Ale is dark in color, beginning with a slight caramel malt overtone and rounded with a relatively dry finish from its English Kent Goldings hops. The hops aroma is mildly subdued and the bitterness is just enough to balance the profile of this beer. Nimbus Old Monkeyshine Ale is a true premium ale and is priced accordingly. Were so proud of this beer for its body, taste, alcohol content and drinking enjoyment, it may just become our signature beer. Be warned: its wonderful malty sweetness camouflages the 8.0% alcohol by volume content. Its a winner!

Maybe I got an old bottle but this was disappointing. I was hoping for more depth. Instead I got a run of the mill 8% ABV beer that is heavy on the booze and light on complexity. More balance would make this light years better.

Aroma / Appearance - Excessive amounts of head took their sweet time folding into a maroon base. It took over ten minutes before I could see more than a corona of brown foam. Rich stained mahogany, cinnamon candy, and stale cardboard tell me something in this was off. I cant put a finger on it but this was not so old that it should have been this far past its prime.

Flavor / Palate - Heavy and cloying there is too much warmth relative to the other flavors. Stale chocolate, warm red hots, and used oil form a boring and dull experience almost from start to finish. There is simply too much ethanol and not enough taste here for this to be worthwhile.

Very sweet, even for the style - very smooth, though - loads of toffee, as well as caramelized sugars, along with a faint buttery diacetyl flavor around the edges - some roasted nuts, dark fruit, and a hint of tartness on the end - not too bad, just way sweet.

12oz bottle pours a dark almost black amber color with small creamy head that dies quickly. Aroma of roasted caramel. Beer has quite the nice medium body to it that finishes sweet. Very balanced taste with the sweetness of the malts and the bitter of the hops lightly lingering in the background. The warning on the bottle is true, the 8% alcohol is well hidden.

Dark almondskin, clear. Small light tan head. Aroma seems trapped. Hidden caramel and spruce. Tasty and rich, good caramel malt and good structure, very creamy. Little rose petal finish. Good on ya.

Appearance: Pours a midnight ruby with a khaki pin stripe. Aroma: Apples and red apple skin and alcohol. Taste: Red apple skins, finishes with bitter hops. Mouthfeel: Watery, big time. Overall: A lousy beer. Im hoping it was a bad bottle, and not what the beer was supposed to be. Also, maybe Im sensitive, but the bottle with the monkey squashing a water melon was a bit bizarre to me.

Pours red/dark brown with an off white head. Aroma is sweet, and taste is malty with a bit of sweet candy taste. Alcohol is hidden well, and the flavor is very solid. Not bad!
