Our Old Monkeyshine Ale is an exceptional example of a true, traditional-style English Pub beer. Nimbus Old Monkeyshine Ale is medium bodied and possesses a distinct, dark roasted flavor. Its sweet malty taste is derived from liberal use of seven varieties of specialty malts and a touch of brown sugar. Our Old Monkeyshine Ale is dark in color, beginning with a slight caramel malt overtone and rounded with a relatively dry finish from its English Kent Goldings hops. The hops aroma is mildly subdued and the bitterness is just enough to balance the profile of this beer. Nimbus Old Monkeyshine Ale is a true premium ale and is priced accordingly. Weíre so proud of this beer for its body, taste, alcohol content and drinking enjoyment, it may just become our signature beer. Be warned: its wonderful malty sweetness camouflages the 8.0% alcohol by volume content. Itís a winner!

Bottle acquired in trade with FlactoAlto (thanks!). Poured a deep reddish / brown with an averaged sized off white head. Lots of small floaters. Aromas of caramel, light chocolate, roasted malts, brown sugar and all around malty. Softer tastes of caramel, roasted malts, and chocolate. Alcohol content hidden. A bit on the thin side.

Pours red/dark brown with an off white head. Aroma is sweet, and taste is malty with a bit of sweet candy taste. Alcohol is hidden well, and the flavor is very solid. Not bad!

Bottle. Full bodied, malt-driven, plum, tobacco, caramel, toffee, moderately bitter, appropriately full, hefty, chewy and resinous. I like.

It has got a monkey on it, it has to be good right? Ruby brown body, small tan head. Sweet fruity booze in the aroma hints at brown sugar with a very muted roast malt touch. Lightly roasty acidity dominates my flavour impression over the muted malt. Itís a touch light and a bit flat, it feels like maybe they were trying to make it cask like. Interesting but not for me today. [8%? Wow! I did not taste that at all!] Thanks for the rarity MDS!

Bottle, thick pour and very small head that fades fast. Murky to muddy brown body with some orange highlights. Strong aroma with notes of brown sugar, spice, ginger and molasses. Light fruits, but it really reminds me of ginger-ale. Taste is malty and a bit husky with strong malts and dark fruits with a touch of cinnamon as well. Very malty beer. Light biting bubbles and smooth with a bit of alcohol poking through.

This cloudy brown ale poured with a thin tan head that quickly disappeared. There is an acidic aroma. The flavor is of smoky malt, caramel and candy sugar with a chalky slightly bitter finish. Itís fairly well-balanced, but a bit thin.

12 oz. bottle from Total Wine in Phoenix. Notes of tobacco, nuts, toasted, chocolate, and amber malts, and earth. Light-medium bodied, with moderate carbonation and an earthy, malty mouthfeel. Decent English ale.

Draft, Rich amber beer with a cream head. Cocoa and malt aroma. Malt and caramel flavor with light cocoa. Medium bodied. Malt and caramel lingers with light cocoa.

Courtesy of gunhaver. Pours deep copper with thin tan head. The aroma is thick with malts, rich cherries and some solid roastiness. The taste has a load of thick rich roasted malts moving into mild pine hops that become increasingly bitter to midway. Iím getting very little in the way of barleywine notes. It ends with some dryness, fading pine hop bitterness and roasted malts.

Bottle, thanks to Craig! Poured deep, ruddy brown with a short-lived cap of off-white head. The aroma picked up sweet, toasted darker fruits, toffee, and cocoa with accents of earth and vanilla.. warmth brought out dirty alcohol notes that seemed off. The flavor found caramel, toffee, and fruit at the core, paired with rum-laden figs, earth, and much less pronounced cocoa.. the toasty finish was alright, but carried through some of the off flavors. Medium-bodied with rolling carbonation on the palate.. just a little rough around the edges.
