COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Old Monkeyshine Ale is an exceptional example of a true, traditional-style English Pub beer. Nimbus Old Monkeyshine Ale is medium bodied and possesses a distinct, dark roasted flavor. Its sweet malty taste is derived from liberal use of seven varieties of specialty malts and a touch of brown sugar. Our Old Monkeyshine Ale is dark in color, beginning with a slight caramel malt overtone and rounded with a relatively dry finish from its English Kent Goldings hops. The hops aroma is mildly subdued and the bitterness is just enough to balance the profile of this beer. Nimbus Old Monkeyshine Ale is a true premium ale and is priced accordingly. We’re so proud of this beer for its body, taste, alcohol content and drinking enjoyment, it may just become our signature beer. Be warned: its wonderful malty sweetness camouflages the 8.0% alcohol by volume content. It’s a winner!

Cloudy dark amber with tiny off white head. Sweet and slightly sour aroma with roasted malt and caramel notes. Same goes for the flavor.

It has got a monkey on it, it has to be good right? Ruby brown body, small tan head. Sweet fruity booze in the aroma hints at brown sugar with a very muted roast malt touch. Lightly roasty acidity dominates my flavour impression over the muted malt. It’s a touch light and a bit flat, it feels like maybe they were trying to make it cask like. Interesting but not for me today. [8%? Wow! I did not taste that at all!] Thanks for the rarity MDS!

Pours red/dark brown with an off white head. Aroma is sweet, and taste is malty with a bit of sweet candy taste. Alcohol is hidden well, and the flavor is very solid. Not bad!

12 oz. bottle from Total Wine in Phoenix. Notes of tobacco, nuts, toasted, chocolate, and amber malts, and earth. Light-medium bodied, with moderate carbonation and an earthy, malty mouthfeel. Decent English ale.

Bottle. Full bodied, malt-driven, plum, tobacco, caramel, toffee, moderately bitter, appropriately full, hefty, chewy and resinous. I like.

This cloudy brown ale poured with a thin tan head that quickly disappeared. There is an acidic aroma. The flavor is of smoky malt, caramel and candy sugar with a chalky slightly bitter finish. It’s fairly well-balanced, but a bit thin.

12 oz.bottle courtesy of daknole. Pours a clear brown color with the small beige head. The aroma has roasted malt, mild dark fruits, a light nuttiness and light toffee. The flavor has an upfront nutty character, roasted malt, caramel, and some alcohol. The finish is dry with moderate bitterness. Medium plus body.

Courtesy of gunhaver. Pours deep copper with thin tan head. The aroma is thick with malts, rich cherries and some solid roastiness. The taste has a load of thick rich roasted malts moving into mild pine hops that become increasingly bitter to midway. I’m getting very little in the way of barleywine notes. It ends with some dryness, fading pine hop bitterness and roasted malts.

Bottle, thick pour and very small head that fades fast. Murky to muddy brown body with some orange highlights. Strong aroma with notes of brown sugar, spice, ginger and molasses. Light fruits, but it really reminds me of ginger-ale. Taste is malty and a bit husky with strong malts and dark fruits with a touch of cinnamon as well. Very malty beer. Light biting bubbles and smooth with a bit of alcohol poking through.
